I'm pretty new to this board and I'm sure this question has been asked before so forgive me.
What in the h#$* happened to Nick At Nite and TV Land? I remember watching the stations in the late eighties and early nineties and they were a treasure trove of classic television. In fact, I have collected a few series sets (Dobie Gillis, Mr. Ed, The Patty Duke Show, and The Donna Reed Show) because of NAN/TVLand. When and why did it start to go downhill? Did someone new take over the networks? I'm sorry, I know that somebody out there has to like "Fresh Prince Of Bel Air" but who wants to watch it twenty times a week? |

I'm guessing that maybe their ratings dipped and so they decided to try some new stuff ("reality" shows, movies, etc). I agree that they've diluted the concept and it's not really TV Land anymore.
The same thing happened with VH1: Ten years ago, I was a VH1 junkie -- I watched every episode of Behind The Music and most of their shows. Now, I never watch it, because it's crappy "celebreality" shows. I wish TV Land would go back to showing classic TV shows, and not just Lucy and Bill Cosby reruns when they do! |

All I know is that I thank my lucky stars every day for the invention of the DVD recorder so that I can just sink into my dvd collection and never really have to subject myself to "regular television", although I'm waiting with baited breath for "Psych" to return.

what happened is, unfortunetaly, they're going for younger viewers and that's why they've "jumped the shark" so many times.
However, I read somewhere that they DO read all the complaints about them on here and other forums, and every once in a while, act on them-unfortunately, though, not very often and I highly doubt they'll EVER go back to their old days. (but, the fact that they've started showing "THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES" & "HOGANS HEROES" again, and they're still showing "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW" & "LEAVE IT TO BEAVER" is proof of that-unfortunetaly, they shred them to ribbons, though)

I said it before in another thread: they need to bring back the My Time Marathon. I thought it was a great way to showcase all of TV Land's shows on different afternoons of the week.

It's sad alright. They used to be the two stations I watched the most. I would even get home on a Friday from work and have a nap so I could stay up all night watching Nick and TVLand. Then they started to go downhill, so I tuned into the Canadian versions which were still good. Now, they too, have gone down the drain and I almost NEVER watch them now.
They can't even call themselves classic television anymore - the shows they air aren't what we consider classics. So much for the babyboomer generation who appreciates them so much. Guess we got too "old" and got the boot. |
