Default i seriously hate my job. tell me if i am being ridiculous about it

tell me if i'm being ridiculous or if i have a reason to be upset.

so in april i started working at a grocery store near my house. they had me bag groceries at first, and i asked to be a cashier and they told me they'd show me how to do it within the next month and they never did. however, they hired about 10 other people in between that time and now and all of them instantly were put behind the register, so of course i was thinking, why did they do that when i've been here longer? every month they'd tell me they'd do it next month, but that time took forever to come.

then, my manager started telling me he wanted me to cut my hair, and he'd constantly tell me that if i didn't cut at least an inch off my hair, he'd send me home the next time i came in and i wouldn't get to work. this bothered me, and i wanted to keep my job so i did as told.

so FINALLY after months of asking why they never put me as a cashier when people came into the store and went right to work as cashier, they had me practice how to do it with someone else's help. however, the second i made ONE mistake, the manager (the one who made me cut my hair a little bit) told me "if you're not going to do it right you need to go back to bagging groceries and pushing carts in from the parking lot". i made ONE MISTAKE. other people have made mistakes and it was never a big deal at all. i made a mistake because he made a rude comment to one of the other managers, he was like "WHY DID YOU PUT MICHAEL AS A CASHIER HE IS NOT CAPABLE" which of course made me nervous and inclined to mess up.

i feel like they treat me like i'm stupid and incapable when i work just as hard as everyone else, and have not done anything wrong since the time i've been there.

I don't think you are being ridiculous. Maybe you should try filling out applications at other places in the meantime, and find a job that fits you better.

i am considering it.
it just pisses me off that they taught everyone what to do except me, and they're surprised i don't know how. i even told them, i know nothing around here because YOU DIDN'T HELP ME WHEN I FIRST GOT HERE, YOU LEFT ME TO DO IT ALL ON MY OWN .

and they don't get it.
and if you want to know who they hired as cashiers after they hired me, it was a girl who made no eye contact and looked about 12 and was rude, a girl from venezuela who can't speak one word of english, and the manager's daughter.

Is the manager's daughter one that could screw up all day long and not get a word said to her or is your manager an equal opportunity criticizer?

Nepotism rears its ugly head. No, you're not being ridiculous at all. You were promised one thing, and given another. It feels almost like a setup, when you made one mistake, and they took you off the register. Everyone, and I mean everyone, makes mistakes. I agree with Monika, get out. It sounds to me as if you're a hard worker who just wants to be given a fair shot. You deserve that Michael. Work in a place where you'll be appreciated.

Sounds like your manager just doesn't like you, probably because of your look.

What a ****tard.

thank you. it's not even that i want to be appreciated, but i want to be treated the same as everyone else. i don't want to be the last one that learns how to do something quite simple (as if they think i'm stupid) and if i make a mistake i want them to help me do better next time and not give up on me.

i'd switch jobs but if i leave this one, my next job would ask my current manager how i did at his store and they'd hear something bad most likely, and have a bad impression of me from the start.

i want to know what i could've possibly done to be singled out from the start. i've asked other managers and they tell me it's all in my head and that i'm too sensitive and take things personally.

i've cried more at my job than everywhere else this year combined. mostly because of him. he also conveniently forgot to give me any hours for next weekend, and if the other manager didn't notice i'd be out of the schedule rotation and possibly not included the next week either.

he's leaving my store actually, but the next woman that is replacing him was there for a while working along side him and she's worse than him by far. so i am definitely considering leaving

I had a job like that...I ended up walking out because if I didn't, I would have done something drastic. You'll never change this worthless piece of crap, so just get out and save your sanity.

i left early one time because if i stayed around, i'd have gotten so upset i'd have either broken things in the store or hit my boss right in the face.

what happened at your job?

you need to get out of there. that's not how a decent manager runs business. you don't deserve that treatment.

I agree. No one deserves to be treated that way. If you dread going to work, something is definitely wrong.
