Bizarre Jack Lutter update on unsolved.com - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was looking at unsolved.com today and came upon the profile of the bigamist airline engineer Jack Lutter.

According to the website : "Jack Lutter was finally captured after he was spotted at Los Angeles International Airport. He was taken to Seattle and convicted of bigamy. He served his sentence of 90 days and was released on probation. But he violated his probation by disappearing once again. A warrant for the arrest of Jack Lutter has been issued by a Seattle court".

This contradicts what crystaldawn was told by the King County Sheriff's Department:

So, what's going on? Should we be on the lookout for Lutter or not?

That's very odd. One would certainly think UM would also have gotten its information from the King Co. Sheriff's office, right? That's too strange.

I just heard back from him. This is all it said:

There are no outstanding warrants for Lutter’s arrest.

What penalties are there exactly for bigamy, anyway? Do you serve prison time, or must you pay a fine (and to whom), or what? Why is this even prosecuted, besides maybe because of potential intent to commit some kind of fraud involving money or property?

Not that I don't think it's wrong to marry someone while being legally married to another, or that it's not a big deal, or that it doesn't hurt anyone. It's obvious that it does. I just don't understand why this is a crime if there is no fraudulent intent to gain the unsuspecting spouse's property. Can any of our attorney members explain? I could be thinking about this far too simplistically.

One big reason I can think of, tax fraud.
