Im having trouble with my wisdom teeth and I think im gonna have to get them pulled. The problems is that they are impacted. I have been trying to put it off, mainly cause I have no dental insurance. It looks like it's getting to the point where it's making me sick plus one side is all swolen and puffy. Im calling a dental surgeon today to get the process started. Just wanted to know if anyone here has had it done, and what was your experience like? Im a little nervous but I have to get it done before it makes me really sick.

I had mine out a few years ago. It was no big deal for me. I saw it as an excuse to lie on the couch and eat lots of ice cream for a couple of days

I had mine taken out 9 years ago when I was 18. Mine were impacted to, so the had to cut then out. It hurt like a bitch, but that's just me. They gave me Vicoden for the pain. My face was swollen for about a week afterwards, and because I couldn't eat solid foods I lost about 10 pounds..

I had mine out two years ago. All four of my neighboring teeth were impacted, so I wound up having to get EIGHT teeth pulled in one sitting! I was petrified of the surgery, but it turned out fine: I sat in the chair, they gave me an IV and started talking to me about work, and the next thing I knew, I was in the recovery room with a mouth full of guaze.
I had no dreaded "dry-socket," and within three or four days, I was back to eating solid food again. Here's the thread I posted about it at the time, in case you want to relive my lovely, fun wisdom tooth experience. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/...d.php?t=188514 |

I had mine removed when I was 16. Wasn't nearly as painful as everyone warned me. Just follow your dentists instructions on how to care for them afterwards and you will be fine....

I know what you mean there! Funny, how the bill can hurt more than the surgery eh? I had mine out years ago. Wasn't that bad at all. I just fainted when I got home but I didn't rest like the doctor said I should. I was awake thru the surgery and laughed the entire time (the laughing gas, plus I had a gorgeous dental surgeon working on me). You'll feel a lot better once they're out. Sounds like they might put you on an antibiotic first though. If you're swelling, there could be an abcess starting and they won't want to work on you while that's going on (most won't anyway). |

Yes, I had mine taken out at the beginning of my senior year of high school. It was August 29, 1997. I've always remembered that day because the day after Princess Diana was killed in Paris. Anyway, I was more nauseated than in pain - it was the other way around when my sister had hers taken out a few years later.

i got mine out last year. the first day was definitely the worst. the procedure itself went great but my jaws started to hurt after the numbness wore off and i wasn't allowed to take any painkillers or lay down until night (the surgery was in the morning). for about a week afterwards i had to take several painkillers a day until the pain stopped permanently.
as a side note, don't eat or drink anything within about eight hours of the procedure. it's life-threatening. i was repeatedly warned about how i could throw up in the middle of it and choke to death on my own vomit, but a few weeks after i had it done i read an article about someone who had this happen to them during the surgery, and no one, even the surgeons knew why. pretty scary they apparently didn't know about the risk. |

i haven't had mine out yet, but my dentist said i need to. they haven't grown up and haven't given me any problems so i'm going to wait on that.
several of my friends have gotten them removed, and they all said the first day was probably the worst. not being able to eat solid food for a couple of days is sucky as well, so treat yourself to a nice dinner the night before. and then just have ice cream/frozen yogurt/whatever else you can eat. GOOD LUCK!!!! let us know how it goes!
