Polly, a kitten that lost one of its legs after being abused, has been adopted by a loving couple in the Kingsland area.
Loving Family Adopts Abused Kitten POSTED: 7:07 pm EST November 14, 2008 UPDATED: 7:47 pm EST November 14, 2008 ________________________________________________________________ KINGSLAND, Ga. -- A South Georgia kitten turned celebrity pet since his story aired on Channel 4 earlier this week has been placed in a loving home in the Kingsland area. Polly the kitten was recently so badly injured in a case of animal abuse that one of his legs had to be amputated. The staff of Laurel Oaks Animal Hospital helped Polly get well and then began looking for a family to adopt him. Hospital workers said there was a tremendous outpouring of support for Polly and that more than 400 people expressed interest in taking the kitten home. Polly has been placed with a couple in the Kingsland area. The animal hospital will continue to monitor his recovery. Kingsland police said they have a general description of the suspected abusers who hurt Polly, and both an investigator and an animal control officer are working on the case. |

Kitty needs a lot of love. I can't believe people do things like this.
The thing I hate the most is the people that don't look for animals when they drive at night. It's not that hard to see them, their eyes reflect in your headlights! |

Sometimes though you just cannot miss them. I lived in a rural area and constantly watched at dusk and night for animals. Once, we even had two horses run out in front of the car. Luckily we were able to stop about only 6 inches from them. It would have been the end of all of us. A couple of years ago though I'm driving home and see the eyes of a raccoon across the 2 lane highway (opposite direction). Sure enough, he comes bolting out into the highway and I'm watching - not sure whether to speed up or slow down (I couldn't stop - going too fast). He runs directly to under my car. I felt the hidious thump and watched behind me. He was rolling over and over, but did get up and run into the brush. To this day, I feel weak when I think of it and can only pray that he wasn't injured too badly and didn't succumb to his injuries a few days or weeks later. That would be awful to know. Point being though, is sometimes the driver can't do anything to avoid hitting them. There is a little plastic thing I picked up at a dollar store that's supposed to allow air through it when you're driving (mounted on the front bumper) and the pitch can be hear by deer and other animals. It's supposed to scare them off so they won't run out in front of you. I just hope it really works. |
