Does anyone else LIKE the new UM? (besides me) - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I for one, LIKE the new unsolved mysteries. I loved the old unsolved mysteries and it's my favorite show, but I tape the new UM every day and watch it. It is nice to see this on the air again. I don't think Farina is a bad host and I like seeing the old segments and having these cases brought to light again. It is sad that people on this forum are so negative towards it....almost like they are stuck in time. I love the 80's UM too and thats what got me loving the show..but come on....keep a place in your "heart" for the old UM, and learn to accept change. I give cosgrove meurer and spike credit for taking the time to do all of this for UM. I have liked a lot of other shows in my time, and have never seen this done before. Now with UM on 4 times a day, obviously it is doing well, so hopefully there will be new segments made soon. As for budget constraints, Lifetime was a cable channel just like Spike, but they seemed to produce some new segments. Anyways, just thought I would post this after constantly seeing posts bashing the new UM and about people who haven't even tuned in....that's surprising.

My husband and I watch it almost every day, and we enjoy it. We were bigs fan of the original show, and like that one better, but the new one is good, in our opinion. I think Dennis Farina was a good pick, and the show is well done.

Even though I'm not thrilled with the new UM, I'm glad there are people who appreciate it. It is good that some of these old unsolved cases are being replayed and maybe could even be solved. I don't usually sit through an entire episode but do watch a few segments here and there that I watched when it originally aired. I do think Dennis Farina is doing a good job.

Does anyone else think that while Farina has a nice voice, he really seems to veer and wander in a his execution of his lines. He adds dramatic pauses in places that don't make sense and he has little sense of rythm or pitch in his voice. He will pause and then finish the sentence out with the dramatic bit having been prolongued out, yet he says it very matter of factly as if it isn't an important bit at all.

Otherwise I am pretty much ok enough with the new series to watch it if I remember its on. For me it serves to remind me of many of the details of these cases and that odd chance that some new info or update may be presented.

I enjoy it.. in fact even in it's inferior state ( inferior compared to the original version) I would still say it's better than 95 percent of what's on tv.

The lack of dates however, as mentioned by countless others is a glaring and inexcusable admission.

I appreciate and like it. It's not the same, but most things don't remain the same in life and it's better than not having it at all, so I'm grateful they revived it. I would make many changes if I was producing it, but, they didn't ask me for my input.

I'm glad it's back. I'm like CD...I watch some of the segments when I watch it on the DVR. I do wish we could get some new cases eventually, but I'm glad some old ones are being aired in the chance they could get new tips and be solved. However, to solve cases, we need DATES! Being that these were probably produced a few months ahead of time, maybe the producers are taking heed and making new eps w/ dates....one can hope at least.

Posts like that have given me the impression that the criticism about Dennis Farina has a lot more to do with his performance on the show than with the actor per se. While I still think that Dennis Farina is a good choice to host the show, improvements in his performance are definintely needed. He should be asked to change his narrative interpretation so that it will be more consistent with the atmosphere of the show.

But if such improvements are to occur, they may take some time since Farina is still the new guy. Admittedly, neither Dennis Farina nor anyone else can be Robert Stack any more than Jason Newsted could be Cliff Burton (of Metallica fame).

It's on Spike, right? I'm looking at my listings in Los Angeles and all I see are CSI showings on weeknights.

Any help would be appreciated!

If you get SPIKE, it comes on at 4 Eastern and 5 Eastern PM. I believe it also comes on earlier in the afternoon as well. At 3 Eastern is an episode of CSI, I'm pretty sure just as there is one at 6 Est.

So regardless of what your menu says, check it out at 4 and 5 Eastern PM time..

Sure, people are nostalgic about the old Unsolved Mysteries, and that plays a part in their dislike of the new show, but why does the new version have to be so substandard? There's virtually nothing left of value. It's an empty shell, a bastardization of the original re-enactments, interviews, and updates. The chilling atmosphere the show used to conjure up is gone because of the choppy, hyperactive editing and the absences of the original music, mention of dates, and Stack's voice.
I find myself fast-forwarding through most of the show now, whereas with the old one I would sit there and savour it every week.

Definately. I don't have anything against Farina himself and I like most of his work I've seen. I just think he needs to own this part and really bring something unique and appropriate to the table. Instead it seems like he's just
"phoning in" his performance and reading some lines.

I'm still getting used to the new host and stuff, but I like it at least for the fact that it's bringing attention back to these old cases and may help to finally solve some of them.

I completely agree!!!

Although I do miss the old version and I like it better than the new one, I'm just glad that its on tv. And I love seeing all the updates on this case!!
