Best cases/Worst cases on new UM

What do you think are the best cases and worst cases that have been shown on the new UM, new or re-done ones.

I thought the one with the man named Tyler who had amnesia was good. I never saw the 2nd part of the story until they aired the new one.

Haven't been too many bad ones from memory.

Did the Spike version mention he was arrested for stealing groceries? The Lifetime version always seemed to edit that part out.

I noticed that too. There was also the other amnesiac case where the guy turned out be an accountant who embezzled money. That case was shown sometime back.

Seconded. I've only ever seen the shorter version on Lifetime.

One that absolutely drove me NUTS was the edited-down segment about the "look at it Omar" arsonist. They cut out like 99% of the unintentionally hilarious narration. :P

I was actually impressed with the Larry Dickens murder segment. I thought it was rather well done for new UM...except that they edited out my favorite part: And I hope they throw the book at him! Kevin Poulsen was a pretty good one, too, in my opinion, and the Alacatraz escapes.

Unfortunately, the majority of the ones I've seen haven't been up to par. One that sticks out for me is the Redwood City Arsonist. On classic UM, that was a well-produced, engaging segment. On Spike, it was a 30-second blurb that left almost all the "meat" of the story out. I liken watching it to passing a sign on the interstate at 80 miles an hour: "What? Why're they showing me a burning house? Is that a VOICE on there? Oh, it was. They caught the guy. Ok." I suppose time constraints, and the fact that the case is solved had a lot to do with it.

Beat me to it. I totally agree...but they DID include the part where the officer talks about thinking about the tape when he went to bed that night.

You both are confusing Tyler with a man named Arthur Paul Beal. They did indeed show his arrest and mention the groceries, in the same clothing from the same night as when he is crying on the phone talking to his mother ("I don't remember you"). They show the cops asking how long he has had amnesia, he says 9 months, they say, how do you know that if you have amnesia? Then they show his mother at the jail bailing out her son. Then they show the hug and all that stuff. They end with, Did he fake his amnesia to escape charges? Which is ******** because he went on NATIONAL TELEVISION...if that was him trying to escape from his past, um....plus, it was stealing groceries!! They did a good job. They left out a lot of the part about him where they interviewed him prior to that night.

Nope, no confusion. "Tyler" = Arthur Paul Beal.

When this story used to air on Lifetime, they very cleverly omitted all of the arrest details. I have the NBC version and it's all there. On Lifetime they show the update and we see him talking on the phone with his mom and then her being reunited with him (actually in front of the jail) but they cut all mention of him being arrested.

Given his situation - IE. warrant issued for his arrest for an entire shipment of groceries that he couldn't account for (probably a felony), the amnesia seems pretty coincidental. Going on UM may not have been his idea. His buddies may have called the show and it would probably look pretty darn suspicious if he didn't go along with it since he so desperately "needed to know" who he was...I could also surmise that he realized running from his problems and trying to start a new life wasn't all it's cracked up to be and so calling UM was the means to an end, so to speak.

Without a doubt, the worst has to be "Omar". That segment was honestly, one of the scariest....and the funniest. Taking out most of the freak's diatribe made it pretty boring. They took out most of the beginning with the family, too. Honestly, when the family sat down to watch it, what the hell did they expect to see....Little House on the Prairie?

Forgive me because I'm bad with remembering the names but the one they did about that Army guy, Justin Bergwankle (that wasn't the correct spelling) was one of the better ones they did.
