Default What Are Some Things That You Won In Contests?

Any of you out there won anything in some sort of contest?

As a kid, my dad signed me up for a NICKELODEON contest and I was one of the 100s of winners to win an autographed book from Larisa Olyenik of The Secret World of Alex Mack.

More recently I won a pair of headphones and an iPOD speaker system through Marlboro.com

What have you won?

When I was a kid in 3rd grade we had to come up with the most synonyms. I won and got a 'pound puppy'. Remember those?

Recenly they had a contest at work and I won the $50 visa gift card.

I won the 6th grade spelling bee. I don't think that counts though. lol!

Last year a friend of mine won two tickets to Wrestlemania in Detroit, and invited me along as his guest. That was easily the biggest. I also won TrailBlazer tickets a couple times, but never went because at the time my agoraphobia was too bad, so I just gave them to friends or family. I've also won a bunch of little things, (free pizza, etc) but those are the biggest things I ever won.

In third grade (1988-89 school year) I won 2nd prize in the Fire Prevention Poster contest!! I got a red ribbon (which I still have in one of my scrapbooks) and a plastic toy fire extinguisher (which I don't have anymore). That was fun - having the principal announce my name during the school assembly!!

That's awesome. I always wanted to win that contest too. What did you draw?

The first prize I ever won was a promo copy of Steve Miller Band's Book of Dreams in 1977. Since then I have probably won at least 500 radio contests. The majority of my prizes have been the normal fare such as T-shirts, Free food, Cd's, Lp's, Concert tickets etc.... I regret not keeping a record of it and I couldn't name it all if I tried. Other prizes include:

Gas BBQ Grill (Radio)
$100 (Radio)
$500 (Awarded to me after filing legitimate complaint against TV Station)
Solid cherry wood office desk (GSN)
Leather jacket (Radio contest sponsored by FOX in conjunction with The Who reunion tour)
Case of Miller Lite (Radio)
Case of Mello Yello (Radio)
52 coupons each good for one free bag of potato chips (Radio)
Nascar Racing tickets (Radio)
Wrestling tickets (Radio)
Outdoor lighting (GSN)
Hammock (GSN)
Beam central vacuum system (GSN)
Wallpaper for entire home (GSN)
2 GSN coffee mugs (GSN)
Greatest Sports Legends VHS set (Financial News Network, Now defunct)

One of my most memorable wins was 2 tickets to see Sheryl Crow in Charlotte, NC. One of the radio stations that I used to be a frequent winner on gave a pair away to the 10th caller when a Sheryl Crow song was played. I was one of the winners and the announcer begged me to relinquish the tickets and give someone else a try. His reasoning was that I had won too much over the past year even though I had played within the rules of the station. My intent was to give the tix to a friend of mine for her birthday but that wasn't meant to be.

I reminded him that I was the 10th caller and that my 30 day waiting period was over. He agreed but still asked me to relinquish them. Rather than argue about it I decided to give them up and later took my complaint to the station manager who was very apologetic and said that as long as I played by the rules I was eligible to win all I wanted to and that I shouldn't have been asked to forfeit the tickets. A few days later I won tickets to see Matchbox 20 and a couple of other bands and was allowed to keep those. The station changed formats a few weeks later and I haven't listened to them much since then.

I haven't actually won a contest but I have come up short. I had a chance to win the TV Guide "Who Died?" King of the Hill contest after the 'Propane Boom' story arc (I had the card with Buckley on it), but I couldn't enter because I wasn't 18 at the time.
I recently had the chance to win a Rick Dees contest for an iPod Touch (Not my favorite brand of MP3 player, mind you) for answering the correct question in one of those "What celebrity voice is this?" trivia questions, but I wasn't around to answer the phone so I lost out.
I once sold a $20 winning scratch card worth $100 while working at the gas station. I really wish I would have bought that card!

I'm not much of a winner!

(1) A 10 lb. bag of potatoes at a hockey banquet (yeah I know!!!!)

(2) A pair of movie tickets for a Halloween costume (funniest as a nerd)

(3) A Nokia phone and tea from CityTV for a funny caption to a picture.

As you can see, I'm NOT the luckiest person in the world!

One FM station (CHUM FM in Toronto) knew him just by the sound of his voice he called so much and they'd say, "Hey Wayne - yep - you won again buddy!". lol

Again, they ended up implementing a 3 month period in between to be eligible he won so often. Must have had them on "1" as his speed dial.
