Serial killer Arthur Shawcross dies
Link The infamous serial killer Arthur Shawcross was pronounced dead last night at Albany Medical Center. According to a spokesperson with the New York State Department of Corrections, 63-year-old Arthur Shawcross was pronounced dead at 9:50pm at the Albany Medical Center. Shawcross had complained of leg pains yesterday. State officials transported him in a state van to the Albany Medical Center Monday evening. When they arrived at the medical center and while he was being looked over in the emergency room, Shawcross went into cardiac arrest and then died. An autopsy is pending by the Albany County medical examiner. According to New York State Corrections officials, last month Shawcross had also been transported to the Albany Medical Center for some other health issues. Shawcross was referred to as the "Genesee River" serial killer. This story gripped the community and sent fear into the hearts of people who lived on the streets but gave them a sense of relief when the suspect, Arthur Shawcross, was caught. Shawcross was convicted in connection with the deaths of 11 women many of them were identified by police as prostitutes. Deputy Police Chief Terrence Rickard said, “This is the biggest thing the Rochester Police Department has ever seen and I think it's one of the biggest investigations that any police department in the country has seen.” Law enforcement agencies from the state on down took part in this investigation. Tonight on News 10NBC at 5, hear from the state police investigator who first spotted Shawcross from the helicopter. |
