Default SNL politics - how they will not appear racist ?

The title says it all; if we had gotten McCain /Palin then Tina would have had a job, even though she did't want it. Now, now what ?

SNL should kiss Sarah Palin's feet...she brought roaring ratings back to a show that should have been put out to pasture long ago. The last 2 months were the first time I've watched the show in years. Also kudos to all the other candidates who appeared as good sports. As for Sarah...she should consider branching out...she'd be a cool political pundit or host of a political show...the gal really knows how to work the cameras...probably better than any other poltician I can think of. Although our Prez Elect is quite good too.

Simple, don't make racist jokes. Treat him as they would any other politician who they impersonate and joke about. Obama will have a few mannerisms that they'll magnify.

Comedians, pundits, and sketch comedy shows have always poked fun at the President.

President elect Obama knows that he will be made fun of. It's part of the job.

I just hope folks will realize this before they start calling Jay Leno a racist for doing Obama jokes in his monologue.

Bill Maher said that, and I heard something similar on a couple other late night shows, I thought that was so funny.

I forget which one who said it, but they were like desperately pleading "please, fall over something, anything!" LOL

I'm curious to see how some entertainers with their own shows will treat Obama.

Will Daily Show host Jon Stewart, a staunch Obama supporter bombard the Obama administration on a nightly basis as he did the Bush administration?

Or will the Daily show decide they're tired of all the politics (IMO 99% of the show has been about politics the last few years) and go back to taking potshots at other things, like when the show first started?

To not make fun of Obama because he's black is also a form of racism; at the very least, it's patronizing.

I'm sure they will find plenty of things to make fun of: Mannerisms, weird statements, etc. The only problem I have with Fred Armisen's Obama is that he's too stiff. Obama is anything but stiff. I think they should find someone who can inject some life into it, exaggerate his mannerisms, etc.

The best comedic actors like Dana Carvey or Will Ferrell, find something peculiar about the person they're imitating and zero in on in, exaggerating it to death.

Obama is a public figure and politician, therefore, he's subject to the same sort of parody that anyone else would get.

I do agree that Sarah Palin gave SNL a boost in terms of political satire. On the other hand, I'm sure Tina Fey is glad to only have her day job (30 Rock) to worry about now. She even said in an interview that Kristen Wiig could take over the impression and do a good job.

Besides, even if McCain had won, the vice president usually fades into the background once the new administation takes over: I mean, how often did SNL do Al Gore when Clinton was in office? I can't even remember them doing him before the 2000 election.

They will make fun of Obama, but it will be good-natured. It won't be like the vicious attacks on Bush because 99% of them are Democrats and they will kiss up to Obama.

I'm glad this thread was bumped back up:

Recently SNL did a skit making fun of Democrat NY Govorner David Paterson, and he was up in arms about it.

But, Tina Fey doing multiple skits mocking Republican Sarah Palin was okay!

Huh? Only Republicans are allowed to be ridiculed?
