Default I Broke My Computer

The piece a sh*t computer froze once again- then I was just adjusting the monitor and now there's this white blob on the right side of the monitor, with little black spots and a little bit of red. All of this came up on the screen when I touched behind the top right corner of the moniter- now it's messed up totally. I can't click anything or view anything on the right and top right corner of the screen. What should I do? I'm not wasting $150 on the Best Buy guys. I need to save up money to try to get the computer guy to fix it- I don't know if it can be fixed though. It's totally f*cked up.

Sounds like the backlight has gone. Happened to me in the summer with my laptop. I know your frustration!

Would you have an old monitor lying around or any of your friends? Maybe you could borrow it until you're in a better position to buy a new one. Even if you have it repaired, it won't be worth the cost probably.

Maybe it is that. How much would it cost to replace it, fix it or get a new one?

Plus I have a laptop computer- not a desktop, so the monitor is attached to the computer....it's not like a desktop monitor where you can pull it off and replace it easy..i dunno wtf I should do.

You're best to get a new one and you're probably looking at about $150. shop around on the internet. At least for that money, you'll be getting at least a 19" widescreen monitor. The one I'm looking at is on the Best Buy (US) website and they have one on sale. I'd go into a store in person though. You can talk these guys down or have "extras" like cables, toner, paper thrown in.

If you opt for repair, you're looking at the hassle of taking it in somewhere anyway, and being without a monitor for a week at least. And it would probably cost the same or more than a new one. These things are built to be replaced, not really repaired because of the costs.

I've got a spare, old box montior I wish I could send to you but mailing costs would be more than $150 also!

You're not the only one who's had computer problems.

This is my fourth computer; my previous 3 all crashed.

Were they all laptops? What make?

The laptop I had go was an old IBM notebook so it didn't surprise me. I just borrowed it from a guy I used to work with who has access to them.

I'm checking with someone about the backlight on Wreckless' to see if all they do is replace a bulb or something. Stand by! lol

If not, we should all get together and dump them in a pit, douse them with lighter fluid and have a bonfire!

Default UPDATE - Not good news!

Just talking to my source now, and it looks like you're screwed.

They're LCD screens - no bulbs - could be something on the mother board too, but either way, it's going to cost about $500 to replace that screen and now, you can basically get a new laptop for the same price.

The screen on a laptop is the most expensive part of it. Can't be repaired cheaply or at all.

If you do have a desk monitor, you could hookup your laptop to that, however, obviously you ain't gonna be traveling too far with that setup. (Picturing you with a 19" monitor slung into a backpack)!

Hate to say it, but looks like you're in for a new computer.

I know what he means - when the backlight goes at first, it's intermittant , and you can BARELY see things so it is possible he can get a post or two in but then it eventually goes completely black.

Who knows - if he doesn't reply again, we know that's what's happened.

Then it's a trip to library or something to use theirs.

I said part of the screen isn't working- half of it. Obviously if the whole ocmputer wasn't working- I wouldn't be online and posting. Think about it.

F*ck- Thanks for helping but that sucks. I was hoping it wouldn't be $500 to fix or replace it. Figures, the most expensive part of the computer gets messed up. This sucks.

TripperFan, even if you have a warranty on the laptop- you still have to pay $500 to get it fixed/replaced? Even if it might be covered.
