The piece a sh*t computer froze once again- then I was just adjusting the monitor and now there's this white blob on the right side of the monitor, with little black spots and a little bit of red. All of this came up on the screen when I touched behind the top right corner of the moniter- now it's messed up totally. I can't click anything or view anything on the right and top right corner of the screen. What should I do? I'm not wasting $150 on the Best Buy guys. I need to save up money to try to get the computer guy to fix it- I don't know if it can be fixed though. It's totally f*cked up.

Sounds like the backlight has gone. Happened to me in the summer with my laptop. I know your frustration! Would you have an old monitor lying around or any of your friends? Maybe you could borrow it until you're in a better position to buy a new one. Even if you have it repaired, it won't be worth the cost probably. |

Maybe it is that. How much would it cost to replace it, fix it or get a new one?

Plus I have a laptop computer- not a desktop, so the monitor is attached to the computer....it's not like a desktop monitor where you can pull it off and replace it easy..i dunno wtf I should do.

If you opt for repair, you're looking at the hassle of taking it in somewhere anyway, and being without a monitor for a week at least. And it would probably cost the same or more than a new one. These things are built to be replaced, not really repaired because of the costs. I've got a spare, old box montior I wish I could send to you but mailing costs would be more than $150 also!

You're not the only one who's had computer problems.
This is my fourth computer; my previous 3 all crashed. |

Were they all laptops? What make? The laptop I had go was an old IBM notebook so it didn't surprise me. I just borrowed it from a guy I used to work with who has access to them. I'm checking with someone about the backlight on Wreckless' to see if all they do is replace a bulb or something. Stand by! lol If not, we should all get together and dump them in a pit, douse them with lighter fluid and have a bonfire! |

Just talking to my source now, and it looks like you're screwed.
They're LCD screens - no bulbs - could be something on the mother board too, but either way, it's going to cost about $500 to replace that screen and now, you can basically get a new laptop for the same price. The screen on a laptop is the most expensive part of it. Can't be repaired cheaply or at all. If you do have a desk monitor, you could hookup your laptop to that, however, obviously you ain't gonna be traveling too far with that setup. (Picturing you with a 19" monitor slung into a backpack)! Hate to say it, but looks like you're in for a new computer. |

I know what he means - when the backlight goes at first, it's intermittant , and you can BARELY see things so it is possible he can get a post or two in but then it eventually goes completely black. Who knows - if he doesn't reply again, we know that's what's happened. Then it's a trip to library or something to use theirs.

F*ck- Thanks for helping but that sucks. I was hoping it wouldn't be $500 to fix or replace it. Figures, the most expensive part of the computer gets messed up. This sucks. |

TripperFan, even if you have a warranty on the laptop- you still have to pay $500 to get it fixed/replaced? Even if it might be covered.
