Default Bossy wives, whipped husbands!

After years of watching TV sitcoms and other shows, there's one aspect that always bothers me. Why is it that the women on the shows are always free to do whatever they want; have lunch with friends, girls night out, buy things on impulse, ect., while if men want to do things on their own; hang out with friends, play golf, buy things, they need to ask her permission? It's like saying that women are free to do whatever they want whenever they want, but us men have to do everything they tell us and are basically their slaves? Isn't this the same thing women have fought against with us men? It's like if the husband wants to do something, like play golf or just watch the game, he has to sneak around so the wife doesn't find out, while the wife watches what she wants and is allowed to go wherever she wants. I know it's for comedic purposes, but if this were the other way around, there'd be protests left and right. And what are we teaching little boys? That as long as women are free that men have to answer to women for every little thing?

If that is not a blatant example of reverse sexism, I don't know what is.

You bring up a very good point.

That's one thing that always bothered me about the later seasons of Everybody Loves Raymond. Debra became a real shrew and Ray was just an insensitive idiot.

My own mom thinks it's only right that men have to do everything their wives/girlfriends tell them, while women can do anything they want to without having to answer for anything.

Default Okay...here's my take...

Historically, women are alot smarter than men are, therefore make much wiser decisions for themselves and for others. So, yeah, women control men, but it is supposed to be like that. When men control women, it's dangerous because men are also known to be physically abusive and overpowering. But women controlling men is actually a good thing. No woman wants to just sit back and smile like an airhead whenever her man wants to do something she knows isn't a good idea. As for women being allowed to hang out with the girls without needing permission from her man/men needing permission from his woman to hang out with his friends.....that is clearly understandable, because we all know how men don't get along with each other on as deep a level as women get along with each other...therefore, men often get plastered and have been known to fool around behind their woman's back. Women are better at just hanging out together and bonding without needing any men around. Women should hang out together more often without any men around. It's healthy for them. Men, on the other hand, need to grow up, face responsibility and respect women, not pal around with the guys everynight. So, equal rights, yeah.....but in truth, women are the better gender and have certain rights and privileges over us men.
