Default Episode Of 'Hannah Montana' Pulled Over Diabetes Controversy

A controversial episode of teen star Miley Cyrus' hit show Hannah Montana has been canceled after Disney bosses were flooded with complaints from concerned parents.

The episode, titled No Sugar, Sugar, sees Cyrus' character Hannah dealing with her pal's diagnosis with diabetes. The show was set to air on Sunday, but was yanked after it was previewed by parents in an on-demand version.

A spokesperson for the show tells the New York Daily News, "During the scriptwriting stage of the Hannah Montana episode in question, the matter of depicting a character with diabetes was reviewed by our Standards and Practices executives who consulted with medical experts to inform the story and ensure that it was told responsibly."

"Notwithstanding the measures we took, and based on the episode's preview and early feedback from parents (who saw it on Subscription Video on Demand and/or mobile platforms), we removed the episode from Sunday's schedule and are now reevaluating it."

This is really upsetting and makes me feel so disappointed, cheated, and lied to that they show the preview, and then end up not showing that episode which I was looking forward to seeing on Disney Channel. If they weren't going to show that episode at all, they shouldn't have advertised it on DC. It's like making a promise and then end up breaking it. So unbelievable that they pulled it after showing that promo with those clips. That's not right at all, and it's false advertising. I can't imagine such a thing happening. What they did really bothers me and eats me up, and sucks big time.

I'm sorry. I'm just feeling so bitter about this. OK, maybe the diabetes issue may be the big reason for this, but still, they shouldn't have gotten our hopes up and then burst our bubbles like that which is my point. Just not right at all. It's so wrong, dishonest, inexcusable, and unfair to us fans who were hyped to see this episode, especially after the preview promo was already shown.

Oh well, it's not the end of the world, and we just have to hope and pray for the best.

And I hope that whoever does the Hannah Montana eps. on DC will read this posting and reconsider. Maybe someone can draw up a petition to air this episode as promised.

I haven't seen that episode. I noticed it on youtube once though, but in another language. But maybe a kid/teen-show shouldn't bring up such serious things as diseases.

This is stupid. If the issue could be addressed in The Babysitters Club (I wonder if little girls still read those) and a few sitcom episodes 20 odd years ago with little fanfare, it's not exactly controversial today. Diabetes is a part of life, people! Kids need to learn these things.

I was all about The Baby-Sitter's Club when I was younger!!! I remember Stacey was the one with diabetes, and I think they handled it well...I don't see how the issue is controversial, like you said, it's a fact of life...I think educating kids is important!

Hi everybody, I know that there are two different types of cholesterol in your body; LDL (Bad) and HDL (Good). HDL reduces LDL. When we eat, Saturated and Trans Fats reduce HDL and increase LDL. Meanwhile, Unsaturated Fats; Poly and Mono increase HDL. Am I correct? What foods have good cholesterol and what is bad? What is your opinion?

What are early signs of diabetes? And what kind of testing is done to check for it? I bruise easily and was told it could be a sign of diabetes. I am only 27. Also what do doctors do to test for diabetes?
