Lawrence O'Donnell, writer/executive producer of "The West Wing," is teaming with FX to develop a new police drama titled "Staten Island." The show is expected to focus on a compromised police chief based in the borough. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series is seen by FX as a natural successor to cop show "The Shield," which is ending after seven seasons on Nov. 25. "Staten Island" reportedly will be shot on location. New York City is already the setting for two other FX dramas, "Rescue Me," which follows the lives of firefighters, including Tommy Gavin, portrayed by comedian Denis Leary, and "Damages," which stars Glenn Close as a ruthless lawyer. Both shows also are filmed in the city. The show was reportedly developed at Mandalay TV, the firm behind Showtime's crime drama "Brotherhood." O'Donnell won an Emmy for best drama series in 2001 as part of "The West Wing." He is also a former panelist on "The McLaughlin Group." |
