I need your advice on something. Say you wanted to buy a pair of new shoes. Would it be better to buy a $60 dollar pair of Nike's or a $10 pair of Dollar General shoes? Is it better to buy something more expensive (with great quality) or buy something cheap (with less quality)?

If the $10 shoes are made by Franklin then I suggest you invest your money elsewhere. They're actually a good pair of shoes until you make the mistake of wearing them in the rain. They do not stand up to water very well and will soak it up like sponge. If worn under normal conditions they should last more than long enough to get $10 worth of wear out of them.

Depends on the situation. With Nike, in my experience, that extra $50 you're spending is going towards having a swoosh on your shoe, and not towards quality. When I was younger, I would always want to get expensive And 1 or Nike shoes, only for them to fall apart within 2 years of owning them. Cheaper shoes last just as long, if not longer for me.

i bought a pair of nike with the shocks on the bottom and shelled out $160. lets just say i wore them 3 times at most. they were the most uncomfortable shoes i ever wore. a short while later i bought a $29 pair of easy spirits and i've lived in them for over 2 years. they're as comfortable as slippers and i might be asking for a new pair this xmas as i've gotten my moneys worth out of them. i was having this same problem a few weeks ago in choosing winter boots. my husband was trying to tell me to buy timberlands but i found a nice pair at walmart for $23 and saved the extra dough i would have spent paying for brand name.

Don't go for expensive & trendy, and don't go for cheap. Ya gotta find a happy medium. Go for brands that care about their customers - New Balance, for instance. They can be a pretty penny, but they last a long time and your feet will be happy.
Me... I have several pairs of Adidas that are still chugging along after two or more years. My most recent pair is 1 1/2 years old now and no signs of wearing out anytime soon, altho I'm pretty hard on it (I work retail in 'em... there ya go). I have some other pairs in excess of 5 years old, and they're still like new. They're expensive, but not OMFGEXPENSIVE. Shoe stores often have a sale on Adidas too, so you can get 'em at a good price too. Mine have never cost more than $60, I think. Definitely worth $60. YMMV. |
