I'm doing research for The Golden Palace and I have verified all airdates for all episodes except for 1, The Chicken and the Egg. Online sources list it as airing 5/14/93. However, I'm finding the episode aired 3/5/93 per TV Guide. Now, other sitcoms aired on 3/5/93, new episodes of Bob, Designing Women and Major Dad, so I believe Golden Palace must have aired.
Does anyone know more about this or has a source that can prove this episode aired on 5/14/93. TV Guide does not list Golden Palace being scheduled on 5/14/93. The short lived Dudley Moore sitcom, Dudley was scheduled. |

I taped all of these episodes from 1992 to 1993. Chicken and the Egg was definitely the LAST episode of THE GOLDEN PALACE. And it was the full 24 episode season, so my almost certain guess is that the May date is correct. (They didn't do the whole show all the episodes and end the season early back then. It definitely did not end in March.)

The episode "The Chicken And The Egg" aired May 14,1993. Also Blanche's daughter, Rebecca comes for a visit too.

I have done some extensive research on this and have attached a log of the CBS Friday night schedule for the 1992-1993 season. The info presented comes from TV Guide and numerous online newspaper resources. (Lawrence-Journal World, Observer-Reporter, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Tuscaloosa News)
Most resources have The Chicken and the Egg scheduled for 3/5/93. The newspapers I was looking at were printed the day of, so at the start of the day, CBS at least was planning to air it. Some papers had special write-ups specific for the episode. All other CBS programming that evening was scheduled as new episodes. Sometimes affiliates pre-empt the network programming to air their own programming. This was the case for KDKA-Channel 2 in Pittsburgh on 3/5/93. CBS's lineup that night consisted of new episodes of Golden Palace, Major Dad, Designing Women, Bob and Picket Fences. This CBS affiliate aired a local hockey game according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. The Chicken and the Egg was the 15th episode produced for the season. CBS aired many episodes out of order and you can tell, such as the episode Runaways. Here is what is listed in the Copyright Office: Each episode is listed with it's production number and the DOP is the Date of Production that is listed. It appears all episodes were entered into the Copyright Office on 6/1/1993 per their records. 1001 DOP: 09/18/1992 Pilot 1002 DOP: 09/25/1992 Promotional Considerations 1003 DOP: 01/15/1993 Runaways 1004 DOP: 12/04/1992 Camp Town Races Aren’t Nearly as Much Fun as They Used to Be 1005 DOP: 10/09/1992 One Old Lady to Go 1006 DOP: 10/02/1992 Miles, We Hardly Knew Ye 1007 DOP: 10/23/1992 Can’t Stand Losing You 1008 DOP: 10/16/1992 Ebbtide for the Defense 1009 DOP: 10/30/1992 Seems Like Old Times (1) 1010 DOP: 11/06/1992 Seems Like Old Times (2) 1011 DOP: 11/13/1992 Just a Gigolo 1012 DOP: 11/20/1992 Marriage On the Rocks, With a Twist 1013 DOP: 01/08/1993 Rose and Fern 1014 DOP: 12/18/1992 It’s Beginning to Look a Lot (Less) Like Christmas 1015 DOP: 03/05/1993 The Chicken and the Egg 1016 DOP: 01/29/1993 Heartbreak Hotel 1017 DOP: 05/07/1993 Sex, Lies and Tortillas 1018 DOP: 06/01/1993 You’ve Lost that Livin’ Feeling 1019 DOP: 02/05/1993 Senor Stinky Learns Absolutely Nothing About Life 1020 DOP: 02/12/1993 Say Goodbye, Rose 1021 DOP: 04/16/1993 One Angry Stan 1022 DOP: 04/02/1993 A New Leash on Life 1023 DOP: 04/30/1993 Tad 1024 DOP: 04/09/1993 Pros and Concierge The Dudley episode Learnin' the Blues has a DOP of 5/14/93 in the Copyright Office. Final questions: If The Chicken and the Egg didn't air on 3/5/93, what did? With so many resources saying Dudley aired on 5/14/93, where does the idea that CBS pre-empted it for The Golden Palace come from? Does anyone have the original CBS recording from 3/5/93 and or 5/14/93? It will be interesting to see what Hulu has listed when the series becomes available next week. |
