Oh No This is a bad year for sports in the state of Washington- it makes you want to cry

When you look at it, it seems that everything that can go wrong has gone wrong for sports in the state of Washington.

Consider:

Seahawks have only two wins, are decimated by injuries, and have looked bad in some of their losses (Buffalo, Tampa Bay, Giants)

The Mariners became the first team to lose 100 games in a season with a $100 million payroll

Winless Washington Huskies, which have looked bad against Oregon, Notre Dame, and USC

Washington State might be the worst single-season college football team in my lifetime (gave up 60 points three times and allowed 58 to Stanford today!)

Sonics move to Oklahoma City

That is so staggering, so stunning, and so painful.

Most of you know Andrea, and Ramona (aka littlebelle) is my best friend on this site.

I feel SO bad for them! (I'm not exactly gloating either- I'm a Buffalo sports fan, and I have had my heart broken countless times, so I'm in that same pool)

Honestly, I can't help but weep for them and others in that area.

Is it more painful than NE Ohio?

Because we haven't won a Championship in the Big-Four Leagues since 1964. Our only wins come from Minor Soccer Teams.

Thanks for the sympathy! I'm honestly not a big sports fan, but I do love my Huskies and am patiently waiting for them to make a return trip to the Rose Bowl. But who am I kidding? The last time we did that was in 2000! Still, I love college football, and would LOVE to go to another game, but it's so not worth it if they are going to be this bad!

It is sad about the Seahawks. I think they are doing the best they can due to the injuries and such. I feel for Mike Holmgren because being this is his last year with them, I'm sure he was hoping for another Superbowl trip.

The Sonics? Well, quite honestly, I could care less about them. I was actually glad when they left because they seemed so determined to get their way.

It is shocking about Washington State, even though they aren't a favorite team of mine.

However, there is hope for us "Washingtoninans"!! I'm hoping the Seattle Thunderbirds hockey team does well, as well as the Everett Silvertips. I've been to a Silvertips game but never a Thunderbirds game, and I also want to go to a Husky basketball game sometime.

As I mentioned before, I'm not a big sports fan, so if I go to a game (like a Mariner's game) I usually end up walking around the stadium, checking out the shops and so forth! Sad, but true....

On a personal note; I moved to Seattle for the beautiful mountains, water and scenery. The sports teams just happened to be here already!

Thumbs down

I was just thinking about this on Saturday night while I watched The Huskies take their 56-0 pummeling against USC, and you're absolutely right, this has been a monumentally bad year for teams in Washington. All the stats you mentioned are staggering, especially the WSC one. I was born in Seattle, and lived their for many years, and I currently live in Oregon where we only have one pro sports team, and so as a lifetime Pacific Northwesterner, I've always been a huge Washington sports fan myself, and I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt, I have never seen the State of Washington have a year this bad in my life, and I hope I never do again!!!

Yeah, it sucks sh*t. I mean, WA teams have their ups and downs. Like when one team isn't doing great, another one is fabulous. Not this year though, seems like we've just had really bad luck.

The Tuba Man, Seattle sporting events fixture, dies of injuries from beating

Link

The Tuba Man has died.

Edward McMichael, also known the Tuba Man, a fixture who tooted his horn for years outside Seattle sports games, died Monday after suffering injuries from an Oct. 25 beating according to the King County Medical Examiner's Office.

The assault happened on the 500 block of Mercer Street around 12:45 a.m. McMichael told police he had been beaten and robbed by a group of juveniles.

Police found two suspects who were later booked into the Youth Services Center.

McMichael was a beloved musician who had been to every opening-day Mariners game since 1990.

Thank you for posting this. I was going to do the same thing but admittedly, I've been caught up in Obama excitement. I'm sure I've seen this guy around, although I don't get to the stadiums much. This is a horrible thing to have happen, but the response that his death has brought to the city of Seattle is just amazing. Lots of people cared about him.

FSU, how could you forget the Washington Nationals? Last place, they only won 60 something games. Out of the playoffs again & in the cellar in the NL East.

That is not a team from the state of Washington. The Nats are from D.C.
