Cool TV stars you only consider as one certain character...

...even though they've moved on to another, more popular role?

Maura Tierney will always by Lisa from NewsRadio to me. I didn't care for her ER character.

I'll always think of Tony Shalhoub as Antonio from Wings. I have zero interest in Monk, and murder musteries in general.

Julia Louis Dreyfus as Elaine (can't help myself!)
I'm the opposite of you, ChesneyLady! I can only see Tony Shalhoub as Monk!
Michael Richards as Kramer (even though he's done some other not so successful things.)
Bob Sagat as Danny Tanner (Same here; I was thinking of his raunchy stand up sets that he does.)

although Katherine Heigl became a superstar as Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy, she will always be Isabel Evans from Roswell first and foremost to me.

i don't care how famous she is now, who she is married to or anything but Katie Holmes will ALWAYS be Joey Potter from "Dawson's Creek" to me. Also, Michelle Williams will always be Jen Lindley from "Dawson's Creek".

I don't care what she's done since Jean Smart will always be Charlene Fraser Stillfield from "Designing Women" and Alice Ghostley will always be Bernice Clifton of the same show.

Ms. Nancy McKeon will always be Joanna Marie Polnazcheck from FOL.

Leslie Bibb can try as hard as she wants to escape it but she'll always be Brooke McQueen from "Popular".

Most people will recall Judith Light as either Angela from "Who's the Boss" or Claire Meade from "Ugly Betty" but to me she'll always be Karen Wolek from "One Life To Live".

I love Fraiser enormously and I'll always think of Kelsey as Frasier, even though I like his other work outside of the Frasier Crane realm. BTW, I was incredibly disappointed that I couldn't go see Swing Vote this summer because I was so busy with school.

Barbara Eden will always be Jeannie to me even though she was on Harper Valley, PTA.

Jane Seymour will always be Dr. Michaela Quinn to me even though she has done a ton of roles.

Joe Lando will always be Sully to me even though he was on two different soap operas.

John Ritter was till the day he died; Jack Tripper to me, even though he was on Hooperman, and 8 Simple Rules.

Now, Larry Hagman was in two memorable roles. To some he will always be JR Ewing, but to me he will always be Tony Nelson, and that's because I watched I Dream of Jeannie and not Dallas. That's just me.

Betty White will always be Rose Nylund to me even though she was Sue Ann Nivens on Mary Tyler Moore and Ellen on Mama's Family.

Rue McClanahan will always be Blanche Deveraux to me even though she was on Mama's Family and Maude.

Beatrice Arthur will always be Dorothy Zbornak to me, even though she was Maude.

Suzanne Somers will always be Chrissy Snow to me even though she was on She's the Sheriff and Step By Step.

Michael J. Fox will always be Alex Keaton to me even though he was on Spin City.

Fred Savage will always be Kevin Arnold to me even though he was on Working.

Neil Patrick Harris will always be Doogie Howser to me even though he is on How I Met Your Mother.

Courteney Cox will always be Monica to me even though she was on Family Ties.

Jennifer Aniston will always be Rachel to me even though she has done a ton of other roles.

John Stamos will always be Jesse to me even though we was Blackie on General Hospital and is currently on ER.

Deidre Hall will always be Dr. Marlena Evans to me even though she was on Our House as Jessie Witherspoon.

Drake Hogestyn will always be John Black to me even though he was on Seven Brides For Seven Brothers.

Alison Sweeney will always be Samantha Brady to me even though she has done some other roles.

Elizabeth Montgomery, even though she came to hate the role later on, will always be Samantha Stephens to me.

Dick York will always be Darrin Stephens to me even though he was in the other show he was in. (Sorry forgot the name of the show.)

Bob Denver, up until the day he died was always Gilligan to me even though he was in Dobie Gillis.

There are so many more that I could come up with, but I will save those for someone else. LOL.

Let's see, to me ...

David Schwimmer will always be Karen's boyfriend (and later, husband) Michael on The Wonder Years.

John Ritter will always be the Rev. Matthew Fordwyck on The Waltons.

Don Knotts will always be Deputy Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show.

Alia Shawkat will always be Hannah Rayburn on State of Grace.

some of the choices I've seen so far seem to be rather "duh" ones. Since IMO, it's meant to be actors you associate for a tv role that isn't their most iconic ones. People like Aniston as Rachel, Ritter as Jack Tripper, Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha and Kelsey Grammar as Frasier seem to be rather "duh" ones because those are their most famous and iconic roles. Now if you think of Jennifer Aniston as Ferris Bueller's sister on the short lived tv spinoff of the movie, that would fit the bill much better IMO.
