Ahh, the holiday season, a time for family, a time for peace, a time for happiness, a time for love, a time for Doris Day... wait... a time for Doris Day? That’s right, Doris Day! And you can enjoy some Christmas moments from The Doris Day Show in the Christmas Memories DVD, available from MPI Home Video.
The Doris Day Show ran for five seasons in the late 60s early 70s on CBS. The series changed dramatically through the years, but in the end, it was basically about Doris trying to make it, wherever she was. Of course, some of the changes that occured along the way included her own kids disappearing from the cast without being mentioned every again, but it did help the show stay fresh throughout the seasons. This DVD brings you all of the Christmas episodes of the series, along with some decent special features. The most important point of this release is that the 3 christmas episodes all have been previously released but in either edited or time speed compression versions. The christmas memories episodes come direct from the film masters and each run about 1:20 longer than the previously released versions.

I bought this set and am glad to have it, although I admit the Christmas episode from season 4 is a tad strange and reminds me why I don't care for the post season 3 seasons!

Oh well, at least the Family Affair DVD's have the original telecast versions. There is one exception though, the episode Room With A Viewpoint is an altered/time compressed version. And the episode A Waltz From Vienna also runs a minute shorter than normal, but I don't think the episode is time compressed so I wonder if maybe something was deleted from the episode. |
