Default Does This Upset You? (deleted YouTube videos)

I went to go watch episodes of Melrose Place on YouTube and they were all deleted due to a copyright claim. Unsolved Mysteries had a bunch of episodes also and they were deleted. You would think that the people who made these shows or produced them could afford to let people watch episodes on YouTube. People will still buy the DVD's. Im sorry, but those writers and the people who own these shows make too much money as it is. When the writers strike happened, they were getting more greedy! I would love to see them live on my salary, they would never make it.

This is why, when you first see it, you save it, especially if it's rare.

The writers aren't making as big a salary as you think- it's mostly the STUDIOS and PRODUCERS that get all the cash. Besides, it's really tough getting a writing gig for TV as it is!

What really ticks me off is when they take stuff off for "copyright violation" of a show that isn't even on any more, nor may it ever see the light of day onto a DVD! Case in point: my husband made a parody of an intro and closing for a well-known Chicago TV kids' show from my era ('60s-'70s) and he got it knocked off YouTube because the station that produced the show raised cane about it. Come on, people - the damn show hasn't been on in 20 years, plus it probably won't make it to DVD!!! What have you got to protect???

You mean in your youtube playlist? Because I've done that and then gone back to watch it only to find that its been removed because of copyright laws. I have no idea how to save it otherwise.

I think she meant save it to your computer. Probably the easiest way is to go to a site like keepvid.com and copy and past the URL there. You can save the video as an FLV file, and there are a ton of FLV players out there if you Google.

Hope that helps!

I've done it a lot myself. I've saved three CD's worth of clips, and some of the gems that I've gotten include:

--an "NFL Today" halftime report from 1987
--the first episode of the CBS "Tic Tac Dough" from 1978 (in 5 parts)
--a full episode of the Jim Caldwell "TTD" from 1985 (also in 5 parts)
--two old "ET" openings (from 1981 and 1982)

and much more.

I really do think Viacom IS Evil, more so than Disney.

Not many people can afford or get a DVD of their favorite shows.
