The date was October 25, 1978 and a movie opened in a small town with no expectations and quickly spread like wildfire and still remains the point where "modern horror" begins and no matter how many useless sequels and remakes by Rob Zombie come along, nothing will ever top the original.
![]() Granted, I wasn't even born yet in 1978, but still kinda scary that the movie is now thirty years old. First time I saw it was Halloween 1988 on a local station and fell in love with it. |

The original Halloween is truly a classic in the horror genre. Made with virtually no money, it continues to terrify viewers today, thirty years later. One of those films I can watch over and over, and it still scares the heck out of me!

In as short as possible. Michael Myers savagely murders his big sister at the age of six on Halloween night 1963. 15 years later on the eve of Halloween, he breaks out of the sanitarium he's in and steals the car that Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) was in. Jamie Lee Curtis (in her first movie) plays a high school girl who is a bit of a loner that works as a babysitter on Halloween night, but little does she know that she is Michael's little sister (she had been put up for adoption and became Laurie Strode) and that he has come to finish what he started with his older sister. Then on Halloween night, Michael starts picking her friends off one by one to get closer to her. About all I'd say without truly spoiling a thirty year old movie. Halloween II, which came out in 1981, picks up exactly where the first leaves off and takes place the same night. |
