Default How old were they in Season 1 ?

They talk about their yearly high school reunions but they so obviously don't like they're in their 20s!!!

Anyone ?

My guess is 27-29, which was close to their real ages at the time

the way they talk about their high school class makes it seem like they just graduated a year or 2 before. that'd make them 19 or 20, not late 20's.

I know in the episode where they lose their jobs at the brewery, just before they move to California, they say they are 27 years old. That is the first episode of Season 6.

So that means they were 23 in season 1

I want to say 20 or 21, on account of the high school reunion episode, which had flashbacks of playing that trick on Hector that got the girls punished. IIRC it was the third anniversary of them graduating.

However, Penny and Cindy were 33 and 28, respectively, when the show began.

no way do they look that young. love the girls, love the show, but they don't look the age of the parts they play.

I think "Laverne & Shirley" must have jumped ahead in time like "Desperate Housewives" did this season. Frank and Edna were married in Season 5 and they celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary in Season 6.

In real life, Penny Marshall was almost old enough to be playing Laverne's mother. She was 34 I believe. I'm guessing that the girls were supposed to be in their mid-to-late twenties.

Then again, Henry Winkler was about the same age as Penny Marshall. Back then, they took liberties when it came to casting the roles of young people. Stockard Channing was 35 when she played Rizzo in the movie Grease -- yikes!

Yeah---Cindy was closer to Shirley's age than Penny was...Penny was 33 and Cindy, 28. I believe they were supposed to be like 20-21, which is soo not believable. I absolutely love and adore the show and Penny and Cindy, but yeah...it was smart to move the show ahead a few years in season 6 as Penny began pushing forty!

Penny also had to play an 18 year old in 1978 when her and Rob Reiner did More Than Friends, but it wasn't *so* bad because she was only "18" in the first few scenes...however it is soo obvious that they are both in their thirties.

Also, at the beginning of Season 7 of L & S (second episode), it's time again for the girls' high school reunion, and I believe it was stated that it's their 10-year one. That may be of help.

Season 7 was their 10th? Makes perfect sense, as in Season 1 they were discussing having been to their reunion a few times before.

WOW! They were supposed to be THAT young? Sorry, I don't buy it. I figured they were in their late 20s/early 30s.
