Default Beckhams To Quit U.S. Within Months?

22 October 2008 9:17 AM, PDT

Soccer ace David Beckham and his former Spice Girl wife Victoria are set to quit America - less than 18 months after they arrived in Los Angeles.

The celebrity couple moved from Europe to California to a rapturous reception in July 2007 as Beckham transferred from Spanish football club Real Madrid to L.A. Galaxy.

Beckham and the singer-turned-designer have often spoken of their love of the U.S. and how their three sons - Brooklyn, nine, Romeo, seven, and three year old Cruz - adore living there.

But reports suggest the family could be heading back to Europe within months amid claims Beckham is set to sign on for Italian soccer side AC Milan in January.

i'd have expected them to leave, but not so soon. seems like david beckham has indeed failed in his attempt in transforming soccer into one of the US's most popular sports alongside baseball, basketball, football.

How exactly do you "quit" a country? Like living in the U.S. was a job for them???

meh - big deal - we never got to see him play anyway - seemed every time they were to play in Canada, Beckham would be "injured".

Maybe we'll at least get to see Posh smile for once - when they leave.

i doubt LA galaxy would've fired him. though it's not like he did anything that bad to warrant being fired. i guess he realised that it was a tall order he had to live up to.

she's always miserable isn't she? they were only in the US for the showbiz hollywood lifestyle. but yes, it seems like they didn't really do much apart from plastering their faces everywhere in the media. in terms of what they did for a living, they offered very little and plus, it didn't pay off in the end

i don't understand whats so special about them...a european soccer player & a washed up spice girl who thinks she's God's gift to fashion. Honey, you're no Jackie O.

Perfectly put! It was ALL for celebrity and nothing else.

And even after the media got on her about not smiling, she said she would and then didn't? Even "Supermodels" smile - especially when no working. That pose is for photos only darling....not everyday living. ugh!

(Reminds me of that political debate and the guy saying, "Sir, I knew Jack Kennedy, and you're no Jack Kennedy" - not an exact quote, but the same point). Not saying she herself has ever compared herself to Jackie, but yeah, she needs to lighten up a little.

Thing is, is that I'm sure she can. I've seen her interviewed by Ali G and she actually was a great sport, funny herself and laughed. It was great to see her like that - actually human. I don't know if someone's been telling her to put on this persona, but if so, she ought to fire them!

I don't think it's going to be long term unfortunately

The L.A. Galaxy's season is coming to an end this weekend and daddy David Beckham has signed on to play just a few months for international soccer giants AC Milan.

Don't worry. It's only temporary!!

Becks will be heading back to sunny LA for the start of the Galaxy's season in April.

Is he even that good??

But seriously, America doesn't watch soccer. Period. I don't know why, but we don't. And one annoying twit isn't gonna change that.

why do people hate Beckham so much? He is arguably the best looking athlete in the world (well, male). It's funny how people have such a passionate hatred for him. I laughed when people took Mark Wahlberg bashed him for no reason and people took Mark's side. Mark and Beckham are about the same age and Beckham is aging much better (look at Mark today, ignore "Marky Mark" and just look at him now, he's lost his looks).

I don't mind Beckham really, it's more the media hype about the two of them. Big deal - there's lot of rich, good looking couples out there. And yah, no harm meant to the rest of the world, but here in North America, we just don't get excited about soccer. Toronto had a pro team years ago (The Blizzard) and it failed. They've tried several times since because of the diverse population here, but they've still really never taken off. It's only the World Cup everyone loses their heads. And I hate it - flags and horns everywhere! lol

I think US media embraced them so well mainly because Beckham has movie star looks. If he didn't have those looks, nobody would care. Notice that many of the people who follow him in the states are not soccer fans, but people who have a crush on him
