Default Scams

Has anyone on here ever gone through a scam? I never have gone through one (fortunately). My mom got taken by one years ago. It was a loan deal where she had to pay 500 up front. Now a days, I think she would have been more careful about that because usually when you see something that you have to pay for up front, your more skeptical of it.

I dont live in a big city, but a lot of people say that pandhandling is very widepsread in the cities. The Snopes.com website has some examples of people being scammed by panhandlers.

I also was reading a Readers Digest article (August 2007) issue about how these slimeballs run these adoption scams. This one couple was scammed by a woman who drained them of money and she was not even pregnant. This one lady who lived in Hawaii was selling overseas orphans illegally and making a huge profit from it.

Years ago when i worked at McDonalds, i was talking to a customer one day and he said he could get me a brand new computer for $200.00. He said he worked for a company that gave him 75% off on anything they sold, and he could hook me up. At the time, i couldn't spare that much money at once, so he agreed to take $25 a week, and once i paid the $200.00, i would get my computer. I paid him $25 for two weeks and never seen him again. I'm just glad i didn't pay him the $200 up front. My boss wasn't so lucky, he did.

Yeah, almost. We put a car on ebay and someone in England "bought" it. Leary of humans, I did some research and figured out we were being scammed. Dude sent us a phony check that we promptly did not cash. F them.

when I was around 18, I actually fell for that "stuffing envelopes--make $1,000 a week" scam!

When I was 12 and I didn't know what pop ads were yet I seriously thought I won a free cruise.

a few years ago we got a letter in the mail from some company saying that due to my athletic achievements, i had been recommended to be featured in a book of the nation's most outstanding young athletes, which would cost some money of course. really funny becuase i'm the most physically inactive **** in the world and i've never done sports in my life. my dad reported them for being a probable scam. i don't know what happened to them though.

I almost got scammed last month from some dude who wanted to buy an extra concert ticket that I was selling on Facebook. I was suspicious at first mainly cuz the guy was from Canada - I thought he had mistaken the concert location as Canada since the abbreviation for California is also CA. When I emailed him telling him that I was only taking local deals first, he sent back what seemed to be an automated message, not taking into account what I said. I realized it was a scam when he said he could only pay with check or money order. Reported his ass to Facebook, but I don't know if they took action or not.

I'm a pretty intuitive sort and I've always trusted this instinct: If it sounds too good to be true 99.999999% it is. I always buy anything from people or companies I know really well and pay with a credit card. This way if something goes wrong I have more protection. But the scams can be clever - like the phishing scams.

Thumbs down

I got an email apparantely from the UK lottery last week telling me I had won their 400,000,00 prize. It looked very official so I got excited for a minute, but after doing some investigating, it was clear that it was bogus. Those bastards!!! According to the real lottery website, if you get something through email saying you've won a large amount of money, it's not legit.
