Default Question about Active X controls

Ok, all of a sudden, IE is blocking some websites I used to have no problem going to, such as Iwon.com. How in the world do I get it to stop doing this?

Or do I hear Rob, saying "Hey Jude, get FIREFOX and dump IE on its sorry butt!!"

And GARFIELDKOOL saying " Jude, man, that IE.......she's a bit**!!"

I do have Opera, though....I guess I will trying using that to visit Iwon.

You mean to tell me, there is no one here who can answer this?

That dosen't sound like an Active X problem...depending on what operating system you're running (either XP or Vista) it might be an issue with either a security update, your firewall or the browser itself. Also, if you're running protection software such as Norton 360, that might also be the cause.

To fix this problem in IE, click on "Tools", then "Internet Options", then "Security", then "Trusted Sites". Double click on the green checkmark, then type in the name of the site then click OK. Try that first and see if it works! Otherwise, try adjusting your firewall.

The message specifically says "Internet Explorer has blocked an Active X control from being installed by this website"

I've already done the trusted websites thingy and the problem didn't resolve.

OK...try this.

In IE, go to "tools", then "internet options" then "advanced". Down the list of things on that area go to "phishing filter", then click "turn OFF automatic website checking", the OK.

Have you chedked your firewall settings yet? That might also be your prob.

Done the turn off phishing....

I'm really not sure on how to check the firewall settings.....

ok--the site seems to be accessible today.

How do these things happen when I've done nothing to change how my computer works? Strange

I wouldn't tell anyone to switch from IE unless they were unhappy with it.

I'm not a big fan of Active X, or anything that installs stuff without your prior consent or knowledge, and I really don't like websites that try to do it.

as for how stuff like this can happen without you changing anything - your security programs can be updated, could be a Windows system update, or updates to IE itself, it could be something in the site changes or breaks, or even something in your temp files that gets corrupted. The best way to fix it is to just take a few steps to isolate the problem, and sometimes it is handy having a second browser to test with.
