Default According to Jim - The Complete First Season DVD Review

Finally the first season of one of the longest-running sitcoms on TV today is on DVD! That is of course the funny family sitcom According to Jim. According to Jim launched in October 2001 on ABC Wednesday nights at 8:30PM, just weeks after the September 11 attacks and quickly became a hit in the ratings and brought families together in a time of need. The show centers on a family, headed by Jim -- an abrasive but loveable father, his gorgeous but feisty wife Cheryl, their three precious children, Cheryl’s brother Andy, and Cheryl’s sister, Dana.

The series stars Jim Belushi as Jim, Courtney Thorne-Smith as Cheryl, Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Dana, Larry Joe Campbell as Andy, Taylor Atelian as Ruby, and Billi Bruno and Gracie.

I bought the According to Jim Season one set, and I must say it was awesome.

This set features all of the episodes aired in the 2001-2002 season.
And it has numerous special features.

Features Included....

"The Season According to Jim Featurette" -- This featurette explains the early development of the show, and how Jim Belushi told the producers that he didn't want a show where the man always gives in to the woman. Fans would love it.

Interviews with the Cast and Crew-- It simply delves in to the actors personal feelings about the characters they play on screen.

Gag Reel-- Actually, I thought there would be more. The gag reel runs a little under 3 minutes.

Audio Commentary

Tour of the "According to Jim" Set with Jim Belushi. This was my favorite special feature of DVD set. Jim Belushi takes you through a walk of the According to Jim set, inside and outside, and even takes you upstairs. One of the things I thought was interesting was that the cafeteria for the show's directors, producers, and cast members is right behind the kitchen. It was also interesting how they make it look like nighttime and daytime outside at the houses "across the street." They also have an outdoor replica of the set for when shots are filmed for the real outdoor scenes. It was an exciting treat--especially if you are into the arts. In the past, I remember David Faustino giving a tour of the Married with Children set, and Kevin James giving a tour of the King of Queens set.

All in all, it was a great DVD. I hope they get on with season 2 and don
t drag it out.
