A complete-series boxed set of "Seinfeld" won the top honor at the fifth annual TV DVD Awards Oct. 14, earning best of show as well as best complete-series set for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
The announcement came at a gala awards dinner at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles. The TV DVD Awards were presented by Home Media Magazine in cooperation with TVShowsOnDVD.com, DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group and The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to best of show, the ceremony revealed the winners in 13 categories as chosen by consumers in an online vote. A blue-ribbon panel of judges, comprising top DVD critics and journalists, selected four finalists in each of the categories from a field of more than 150 studio submissions of titles released between Oct. 1, 2007, and Sept. 30, 2008. Winners were determined by an online consumer vote conducted at HomeMediaMagazine.com, TVShowsOnDVD.com and TheDigitalBits.com. The panel selected the best of show winner from among all entries. "Seinfeld: The Complete Series" was the only multiple award-winning title of the night. As a studio, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment also won two awards, taking best animated TV DVD for "Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest," a "Star Wars" parody, and best reality show for its "Cops: 20th Anniversary Edition" compilation. "John Adams" continued its award-season blitz, taking home the best miniseries/made-for-TV movie trophy for HBO Home Entertainment. The epic miniseries about the founding father won a record 13 Emmys last month. Time Life's trend of releasing sets of classic TV shows continued to pay off as well. After winning last year for a "Get Smart" boxed set, Time Life won best 1950s/1960s series with "The Man From U.N.C.L.E. -- The Complete Series," which it has sold as an online exclusive for the past year. Warner Home Video begins selling the set at retail Oct. 21. And, for the first time, the awards recognized the top TV show released on Blu-ray Disc. The honor went to Universal Studios Home Entertainment's "Heroes: Season 1" Blu-ray boxed set. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...3fa510bb768681 |

Wow, that's awesome! How cool is that?! I don't have the entire series box set, but the individual ones are VERY cool!!

Really want to buy the complete series as well, just annoyed that I have 2 seasons already (6 and 8) and feel like I'm wasting money to buy the same thing again. So, until I somehow sell those or give them as a gift, I won't be buying the complete set.

I have all the season sets but I'm considering buying the complete series for collector's purposes.

The Seinfeld DVDs are among the very best that I know of. I don't own the complete series box set but I own every individual season, and they are all absolutely loaded to the brim with special features. I haven't bought many DVDs that give you that much bang for your buck. Featurettes galore, commentaries on several episodes, the "notes about nothing"(which are a really neat feature), some rare standup comedy footage, inside looks on most episodes, deleted scenes for almost every episode, etc... etc...Oh and some Easter Eggs as well.
The Seinfeld DVDs are definitely among the crown jewels in my DVD collection. |

Andrea, you are so right. There's more on each DVD than seems possible to put on there. One thing's for sure----Seinfeld on DVD is a MUST for any fan of the show.
