I remember watching Cybill when it was on. I was younger then. And barely remember it. I didnt watch it much because my dad said its not a good show for me. I think i remember it being very controviersal, like Ellen. Was it canceled becuase of ratings or for other reasons.

It was cancelled due to creative differences between CBS, Carsey Werner, and Cybill Shepard. They announced it just a day after Christine Baranski won her emmy.

k, thanks all. Thats what I thought. Its a shame though. Cybill was very hilarious. I loved Christine Baranski and Cybill on the show. I wish it would have kept going. Another network should have picked it up or something. Why would CBS care what the show does, didnt Cybill boost CBS ratings. I mean if its helping the network, let the show run.
ok, thats all, thanks much |

The ratings weren't very good when CBS moved the show to the old "Murphy Brown" slot Mondays at 9. CBS expects the shows that air there to be in the Top 20, and "Cybill ranked somewhere in the 30s or 40s that year, so it was cancelled. Believe me, if the ratings had been good, all the creative differences in the world wouldn't have kept that show off the air. Look at "Roseanne".

I wish that it would have run longer becuz I didn't like that whole
"To Be Continued..." thing at the end of the final episode! If they were gonna do that, wouldn't it make more sense to have an hour long finale?? Huh??? Is that much to ask? Feenster Girl |

I know, I agree. I do not like the 'to be continued' thing, and niether did Cybill. She faught to get it to not be on, but was unsuccessful.

Cybill Shepherd Says Her ’90s Sitcom Ended Because She Refused Les Moonves’ Advances
If you look at the ratings of her show's last season it was 50th ahead of The Nanny and Murphy Brown on the same network. Also quite a few CBS shows well below her's in that season that on this list were renewed. |

It's unfortunate.
Cybill didn't have a good working relationship in the end, with Lorre and Baranski either: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJeC5EVtsls http://www.pajiba.com/celebrities_ar...each-other.php Otherwise, it would be great if she could be a guest star on 'The Good Fight' to re-unite the two (Cybill and Christine) onscreen. |

One way to look at this and whether or not Cybill got "screwed by the network" (probably not the best choice of words in relation to Les Moonves) is that it was canceled just 13 episodes short of 100 episodes, which was the magic number for syndication back in the day. Normally, studios would bend over backwards to get their shows to hit 100 even if the ratings were falling, especially if they were close, because those syndication deals were a huge payday for everyone involved.
You can of course, counter with the notion that Cybill was never really a huge ratings hit (the highest that it ever got was #22 in its first season) to begin with. Also, CBS didn't really own the show (Carsey-Werner did) so they would not have benefited financially from syndication. |

But you all, not to be offensive at all, need to also notice that some info about cybill's negative adult role real-life in this show wasn't aired in television when this show was automatically cancelled too soon. So, her negative adult role real-life was saved and recycled into one of these "In The Hood Troublemaking" African-American sitcom called "The Parkers", TBH, IMO.
