Question Song lyrics that mean alot to you

Do you ever hear a song lyric that touches you so profoundly that no matter how much you hear it, you never get tired of it?? What about lyrics that touch you so deeply they've been known to make you cry. That's what this thread is dedicated to, lyrics that mean alot to you for whatever reason. This first lyric has meant alot to me ever since I first heard it because I was a major outcast in school, and can relate so deeply to it in so many ways. Here's the lyric.

P.O.D., Youth Of A Nation - "Johnny Boy always played the fool, he broke all the rules so you would think he was cool. He was never really one of the guys, no matter how hard he tried, often thought of suicide. It's kind of hard when you ain't got no friends, he put his life to an end, they might remember him then. You cross the line and there's no turning back, told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat".

St. John 15:13 - Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Currently my favorite song.

There's a song that Burl Ives recorded back in the 1970s. I can't remember
the title, but the song is about growing old. And there's a profound line in
there that has always stuck with me:

" ... they're tearing down buildings that I watched them build."

That line just says so much.

I love Anyway, beautiful song. I was actually just thinking of posting it in the music video thread. If you like Anyway, you might also like How You Live, by Point Of Grace. Check it out if you get a chance. I think you might like it! It reminds me of Anyway sort of. kind of has the same message.

There's so many songs and lyrics that mean a lot to me, whether they have personal meaning to me or not. There's way too many to try and think of, but this Martina McBride song is one that stands out for sure:

From The Ashes

My right hand holds matches
My left holds my past
I hope the wind catches
And burns it down fast
I'm gonna step into the fire
With my failures and my shame
And wave goodbye to yesterday
As I dance among the flames So

Chorus:
Don't try to save me now
Let the walls of my world all burn down
Just stand back and wait 'til the smoke finally passes
And I will rise
From the ashes
From the ashes
From the ashes

For all that I'm losing
Much more will I gain
The hard part is choosing
To change what needs changed
My step will be much lighter
With these demons off my chest
I'm born a better spirit
And lay the old to rest

Repeat Chorus

I'll walk away stronger
I will be flyin'
Higher and truer
Than I've flown before

My right hand holds matches
My left holds my past
I hope the wind catches
And burns it down fast

Sometimes a line in a song doesn't necessarily mean a lot to me, but definitely gives me a "chills" moment. One example is in the song "Old Soul" by Patty Loveless, which is about a woman going through the natural process of growing older. The line, "She's forgotten more about life and love than most will ever know" just says so much to me.

John Lennon wrote some beautiful lyrics. Other masterpieces that he penned:
Grow Old with Me (covered by Mary Chapin Carpenter)
In My Life (recorded by The Beatles, with George Martin on piano)

There's no one lyric in particular that gets me in this song, the whole song touches me.

Beth Hart - Leave The Light On

I've seen myself, with a dirty face
I've cut my luck, with a dirty ace
I leave the light on
I leave the light on
I went from zero, to minus ten
I drank your wine, then
I stole your man
I leave the light on
I leave that light on

Daddy ain't that bad, he
just plays rough
I ain't that scarred,
when I'm covered up
I leave the light on
Yeah, I leave the light on
Little girl hiding underneath the bed
Was it something I did? Must
be something I said
I leave the light on
I better leave the light on

[ Chorus 1 ]
'Cause I wanna love
And I wanna live
Yeah, I don't know much about it
And I never did - no, no

17, and I'm all messed up inside
I cut myself, just to feel alive
And I leave the light on
And I leave the light on
21 on the run, on the run, on the run
From myself, from myself and everyone
I leave the light on
I better leave the light on
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/aDb ]

[ Chorus 2 ]
'Cause I wanna love
And I wanna live
Yea, I don't know much about it
And I never did
I don't know what to do
Can the damage be undone?
I swore to God that I'd never be
What I've become

And lucky stars, and fairy tales
I'm gonna bathe myself,
in a wishin' well
Pretty scars from cigarettes
I never will forget - I
never will forget

I'm still afraid, to be alone
Wish that the moon would follow me home
I leave the light on
Yeah, I leave that light on

I ain't that bad, I'm just messed up
I ain't that sad, but I'm sad enough

[ Chorus 2 ]
'Cause I wanna love
I wanna live
No, I don't know much about it
And I never did
I don't know what to do
Can the damage be undone?
I swore to God that I'd never be
What I've become

I leave that light...
I leave that light...
I leave that light on

God bless the child,
with the dirty face
Who cuts her luck, with a dirty ace
She leaves the light on
I leave that light on

The lyrics to Journey's "Send Her My Love" and "Faithfully" mean so much to me because they remind me of my friend Doug, who suddenly passed in 2003. It took me a looong time to listen to both those songs without crying.

These lyrics from Switchfoot's "The Shadow Proves The Sunshine" always touch me. Probably because I can relate to them at times.

"Oh Lord, why did you forsake me, oh Lord, don't be far away, away, storm clouds gathering beside me, please Lord don't look the other way, we are, crooked souls trying to stay up straight, dry eyes in the pourting rain well, the shadow proves the sunshine, the shadow proves the sunshine, two scared little runaways, hold fast till the break of daylight, the shadow proves the sunshine, the shadow proves the sunshine."

Celine Dion's "Because You Loved Me"-My husband and I danced to this at our wedding.
Michael Bolton's "Said I Loved You, But I Lied"-This is one of the most romantic songs I have ever heard.
Michael W. Smith's "Friends"-this was our high school senior class song at church. The words are so poignant.

Conversations with my
thirteen year old self
Conversations with my
thirteen year old self

You're angry
I know this
The world couldn't care less
You're lonely
I feel this
And you wish you were the best
No teachers
Or guidance
And you always walk alone
You're crying
At night when
Nobody else is home

Come over here and let
me hold your hand and
hug you darling
I promise you that it won't
always feel this bad
There are so many things I
want to say to you
You're the girl I used to be
You little heartbroken
thirteen year old me

You're laughing
But you're hiding
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/E8DQ ]
God I know that trick too well
You forget
That I've been you
And now I'm just the shell
I promise
I love you and
Everything will work out fine
Don't try to
Grow up yet
Oh just give it some time

The pain you feel is
real you're not asleep
but it's a nightmare
But you can wake up anytime
Oh don't lose your
passion or the fighter
that's inside of you
You're the girl I used to be
The pissed off complicated
thirteen year old me

Conversations with my
thirteen year old self
Conversations with my
thirteen year old self

Until we meet again
Oh I wish you well oh
I wish you well
Little girl
Until we meet again
Oh
I wish you well
Little girl
I wish you well
Until we meet again
My little thirteen year old me
