Default Rapists of the Lost Ark: Did South Park Go Too Far?

Matt Stone and Trey Parker still know how to get people talking.

Wednesday night's South Park outing pushed the envelope ─ and then did all kinds of god-awful things to it ─ with a recurring joke in which uberproducers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg repeatedly (and in the style of some classic film scenes, a la The Accused and Deliverance) sexually assaulted an unwitting Indiana Jones.

The scenes were presented as a commentary on the Indiana Jones producers' overzealousness to capitalize and profit on a franchise with little regard for quality. Or something like that.

The sticky wicket here, of course, is that the Indy franchise is produced by Paramount, which like Comedy Central is owned by Viacom. That "feuding siblings" dynamic last came into play when South Park (literally) locked Paramount poster boy Tom Cruise in a closet.

Yeah, I guess it was a bit much. Rape is not a laughing matter.

I do give the South Park guys credit for blaming Lucas and Speilberg for "ruining" the Indiana Jones franchise.

99.9% of the pissy little whiners out in cyberspace blathering about how Crystal Skull destroyed thier fanboy lives place the blame completely on George Lucas.

this actually wasn't the first time SP has attacked Lucas and Spielberg for ruining classic movies. In season 6 right after the infamous "walkie talkie" version of E.T. was released, South Park did the episode where Lucas and Spielberg decided to destroy Raiders Of The Lost Ark by doing a special new edition of it and at the end they get destroyed like the nazis did while the kids made sure to not look at the screen showing it

I agree rape is not funny, but how could you not laugh when the feds busted in on Lucas raping the Stormtrooper? LOL

I disagree guys I thought the China Problem episode was hilarious. I thought the Indy satire was very funny its just a cartoon satire of the raping of the movies like Indiana Jones & Star Wars not to be taken so seriously. I thought the episode was one of the best South Parks I have seen.

I didn't think they went too far with the jokes.

Family Guy makes light of sexual assault just about every other episode with no reason or rhyme just for the shock value.

that was the funniest bit out of the whole episode. It's what Trey Parker and Matt Stone does. And no... they didn't go too far. The last Indiana Jones movie sucks horribly and this bit was alot more entertaining. The Chinese bit was stupid though.
