Default Major Ratings News : BBT Beats How I Met Your Mother

The final ratings are in, and BBT had its best ratings night ever, considering it is now on in the lower rated 8:00 time slot. BBT had a major milestone, as well. It beat How I Met Your Mother in the ratings ! That is the first time an 8:00 show beat the 8:30 show since The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother have been sharing the 8:00 and 8:30 time slot for a new episode. Here are the final ratings :

8:00 The Big Bang Theory 9.39 million viewers

8:30 How I Met Your Mother 8.98 million viewers

If this show continues it ratings roll it could be on to some very, very big things. Congratulations to the BBT crew.

I saw this earlier today, and its fantastic news. The 8pm move hasn't hurt the show one bit, and its rebounded a lot from its post-strike spring episodes last season. I'm really surprised to see it beat HIMYM. While its great for BBT, CBS should be a little worried about Mother. An 8pm show should not be beating an 8:30 show . . .

If it was on at 8pm, I could see it very close or over 10 million viewers. I really wouldn't be surprised if at this rate, it reaches that by the end of this year. Once 2.5 Men is done, this show should easily slide into the 9pm slot.

Great news for The Big Bang Theory, but HIMYM still beat it in the key advertisers' demo of 18-49 (4.0 vs. 3.7). The switch by CBS last year ended up benefiting both shows. Big Bang Theory is doing a great job leading off the night while HIMYM is performing at higher levels than it ever has before (and skewing very young for CBS). Both shows are really hitting their ratings' stride

Great news indeed and if it keeps going like this you can bet that CBS will move it to a new night and time and kill it.

That is only because of the HUT levels advantage at 8:30. Which in layman's terms means more people were watching TV at 8:30. This is the first time the 8:00 show beat the 8:30 for a new episode since these two shared the 8:00 and 8:30 time slot. I think both HIMYM and BBT are both doing well, but this is quite a feat for BBT to actually have more people watching the show at 8:00 than HIMYM had at the higher rated 8:30.

I have to say, this episode has been the best of the whole series so far in my opinion! I've never watched an episode of a single tv show 3 times ina row without stopping to catch a breath.

If I were CBS, swap 'Mother' and 'Week'. Both would probably do better in the ratings!

IMO, the past 3 episodes have 'Mother' have been fantastic and 'Men' is back to its early years glory (cause imo, the last season was weak).

Yeah, this episode was really great. Sara Gilbert is really adding so much to this show, IMO. And Kaley Cuoco was the greatest thing about this episode - hopefully they'll learn from this and give her more storylines. She's awesome in her role.

Someone from this show better get nominated at the next Emmys. Jim Parsons deserves hands-down deserves a nomination. And at this point, I'd go as far as saying that both Kaley Cuoco and Sara Gilbert deserve nominations as well. Sara's only been in 2 episodes this season, but she's fantastic.

Yeah, and let me add not only do the actors deserve an Emmy nomination, but the show deserves a best comedy show nomination. This is quickly becoming the best and funniest sitcom on TV. First we need to see it renewed for next season, and then we can concentrate on Emmys Awards, which it richly deserves.

I have no doubt it'll be renewed for next season. I'd put it as among the first shows announced for renewals. There's no way CBS would let it go with the ratings it delivers on a weekly basis.

The Emmy's have become a joke. Some of the nominations are insane - 30 Rock getting 17 nominations? That's a joke in itself-LOL.

It makes me crazy how shows like Big Bang Theory are surpassed by the Emmys. It deserves every nomination in the book, honestly. The one thing they do get right every year is nominating Julia-Louis Dreyfus for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (some of the best work I've seen on a sitcom in years). And Jim Parsons is right up there with her - he definitely deserves a nomination.

I hope your right about the renewals. It has done very, very well, but it has only been three weeks, and CBS always seems to make HIMYM sweat out a renewal to the last day before the upfronts every year. I hope they do not do that to BBT. Let's also hope to many good ratings weeks to come.

As to the Emmys, they always seem to nominate the same people and shows over and over again. They need some new blood like The Big Bang Theory. I do think that Jim Parsons made a mistake going for best lead actor, when he should have gone for supporting actor. I know technically he is a lead, but in an ensemble cast, and they say you should go for the best supporting actor. Let's hope for better next year.
