Post abuse on the set of D the M.

This was discussed in a way earlier but has anybody heard of the rumors and such that Jay North was abused on the set of Dennis ?
My cousin swears she saw an interview on tv with North saying that he got his faced slapped ( to the point the slap drew blood ), got kicked in the stomach, yelled at on a constant basis. All she was telling me ( according to North ) took place in full view of the other actors and staff. Why didnt someobdy call the law on this?

If this was true why didnt Herbert Anderson or Gloria Henry ( or even the actors who played the Wilsons )or even CBS stepped in to protect?
I myself cant see Gale Gordon ( or anybody else for that matter on Dennis the Menace )standing around watching a child being used as a punching bag.

I have read books where in one North slams the show while in others he spoke highly of the other members of the cast.

I DO believe ( as it was said earlier) Nick took off this show when North "came out" to discuss the abuse he suffered. It was around the same time.

Sad

I have heard a lot of stories about abuse too. It is amazing that he was able to act as well as he did and pretend to be happy, when he was miserable!

Angry

What happened to Jay North was intolerable. Thank God times have changed that children could speak up when they're being abused. Too bad it happened to Jay. I hope he is doing well now.

I saw Jay North on a couple of shows discussing child stars. One of them had Paul Peterson---Jeff from Donna Reed---speaking about his organization that helps old child stars. This was about 5 years ago. Jay talked about his aunt and uncle who were his handlers on the set because his mother worked. They yelled at him and threatened him also hit him for whatever misdeeds they thought he did. Jay said he never told his mother about the abuse. All his emotional problems and substance abuse he blames on these people. He was very bitter and angry talking about it on this show. A few years later he got help in rehab and seems to be very reluctant to talk about his past at all now.

Default I've also heard of abuse.

But IMO...after seeing North on a coupla specials I came away with the conclusion that he's AWFUL bitter in respect to his career, and that the 'allegations' of abuse could just be exaggerated!

I think that if he was being severely abused on the set, someone would have noticed and done something about it! And why didn't HE say anything all those years ago...instead of waiting.

But then again...just MHO.

Have you ever seen Lauren Chapin's story on E True Hollywood Story? She was abused in various ways by her parents and people she worked with on Father Knows Best knew something was wrong with her mother, Back then parents were not challenged about what they did to their kids.

Jay North ( who is now working as a prison guard in Florida if you believe the National Enquier ) about 10 years ago was on a special on NBC about former child stars.

I though it would be a loving tribute to Dennis the Menace, I even had my VCR running but once this mean looking man ( Jay North )
went on saying how his own show makes him want to vomit ( thats his words ) I stoped the VCR.

Then a few weeks later he was on another show saying how "wonderful" Herbert Anderson , Joe Kearns, and Gloria Henry were and such.

Then yet another interview a year later, Jay went a step further saying how much the kids of the 90s are trash and wont be worth a damn when they grow up. How much he hated Ron Howard and such. Almost like he is jealous. If memory serves correctly he claims his Aunt slapped him across the face and popped him in the nose right in full view of the other cast members. And no one said anything about it ( if this indeed happened )? Very Strange !!!!

After watching the interviews over the years and the E True Hollywood Story, I get the feeling the Jay North is more bitter that his acting career didnt go as planned.

Abuse? Maybe he was abused on the set and that could very well
be the reason for his strange flip floping behavor.

But to me even though we are talking about a different era, it seems so weird that with so many people on the set someone didnt noticed there was a problem.

In addition to North, there is only one main cast member still alive who can confirm whether North was abused on the set...Gloria Henry. I have never heard her say anything about this.

Gloria Henry appeared on E"s "True Hollywood Story" on Dennis the Menace, I remember she said something about the abuse but I forgot what she said. I have to go back and look at the tape.

One reason why Jay North over the years speaks so highly of Dennis the Menace in one interview and damns it the next is because he has bi-polar disorder.

A lot of folks who suffer with this tend to one day be your best friend one day and "hate" you the next.

Just like my co-worker. One day he'll say things like "....my you are doing such a good job". Then a few days (sometimes hours) later he'll say "...god-damn you, what in the f*ck are you doing, I ought to fire you RIGHT NOW".

Anything can set them off, its a horrible disorder.

I saw the interveiws too and my blood boiled hearing about Jay's aunt treating him like that... Was it Geraldo? I have it on tape somewhere... He also talked about realizing he was going nuts when he nearly beat the crap out of a guy in a road rage situation, like all his bottled up anger was coming out right then. I was confused too when I saw other shows like you said where he wasn't so bitter, maybe Jay is manac depressive? to a certain extent? I do beleive Jay about his abuse as a kid... being driven by fear and his money being taken by the very one that treated him this way.... I remember he said he hoped she was rotting in hell as he spoke!

They say that the eyes are the window to the soul. Next time you watch "Dennis the Menace", look at Jay North's eyes. They look really angry, even when he's smiling.

I haven't heard anything from Jay North in print for many years. He must be on medication.
