Is it just me or is it weird that a delivery company won't unload what they are delivering?
My mother bought a spa online. She has a bad back from being a nurse for 21 years, etc. The spa was expensive. The delivery company apparently only delivers things, they don't move them. I was told that they "aren't a moving company." The spa is extremely heavy. Around 300 pounds or so. There was only one driver. Apparently the company only has one person per vehicle because having two or more would be too expensive. So the guy got here a little awhle ago. I told him where it needed to be put on the patio. That's when he told me that they are a delivery company not a moving company. The guy told me that it was heavy and was about 300 pounds. The guy said I would have to move it. I explained to him that I'm only 5 ft. 6in. 120 pounds and visually impaired. I'm not strong. I can't pick up and carry heavy things like that. He said my mother could when she gets home. I explained to him that she wouldn't be able to lift it because if she did it would break her back and that she has a bad back from years of nursing. He said, "None of that matters." I thought that was cold-hearted, imo. I called the delivery company who was not sympathetic at all. They told me the same thing that they only deliver, but don't move anything. The guy on the phone said that if I or someone else couldn't move it that it would have to be returned and there would be a fee for returning it, storing it, etc. I even spoke with the manager who wasn't helpful. The guy that delivered it finally went ahead and put it on the patio. He made a big deal out of it. He wasn't happy. I thanked him. |

One reason they insist the customer move the item is because they probably don't want to for fear of damaging it especially if they're not insured. If they damage it then it most likely comes out of their pocket.

I can see both sides of the issue here, it's kind of like the mail or even pizza delivery, they deliver it to your house but they don't usually come inside with it. But it was nice that he finally helped you out by putting it on your patio.

That's insane. If you order a piano online, would they leave it at the front door? Everything heavy I've ever ordered was put right where I wanted it. That spa company needs to pony up the money and have two drivers and get liability insurance. If they're selling a heavy item, they have a responsibilty to their customers to put it where the customer wants it, within reason of course.
I'm jealous of your mother's spa, btw. Just thought I'd throw that in.

I agree - that's a total line of BS they shot you. If there's a place where you can review who you bought from, I'd definitely fill it out so others are aware of this stupid "policy". I've never heard of anything like that.
Sure, I've had places deliver and just dump the thing in the middle of the room (like they just did with a t.v. I bought), but never anything that large. It's all part of THEM doing business - they should have 2 drivers AND insurance to cover them. And then to threaten that you'd be charged if you had to refuse the delivery that day - that just sounds like a scam to me. They should have told your mom at the time of the order that somebody should be home that could take it to the patio if they weren't going to. Good thing it wasn't me - I would have been on the phone to the local news real quick to embarrass them and give them bad press. But that's just the beotch in me!
