Default Yogi Bear and Boo-Boo Coming to the Big Screen

Link

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Warner Bros. is taking a trip to Jellystone Park.

The studio is developing a feature version of "Yogi Bear," the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon. "Surf's Up" co-helmer/co-writer Ash Brannon will direct the film.

Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who executive produced "That '70s Show" and are writing the feature "Tooth Fairy" for Fox, are penning the screenplay.

The project, culled from Warners' vast library, is planned as a live-action/animated hybrid along the lines of Fox's 2007 hit "Alvin & the Chipmunks." Much of the movie will be live action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG animation.

Yogi Bear first appeared as a supporting character in 1958 in another classic cartoon, "The Huckleberry Hound Show." In 1961, he got his own show, which has aired in reruns frequently over the past half-century.

Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.

Brannon has worked on such Pixar hits as "Toy Story 2" and "A Bug's Life."

Terrific! I can't wait to see them ruin another piece of my childhood. Sorry.
That was just a gut reaction. As I've gotten older, I've become a bit of a
cynic, I guess. Actually, I did kind of like the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie. I just think they have overdone the CG animation trend. I'd rather
see a return to traditional, hand-drawn animation (like Yogi's first film, "Hey
There, It's Yogi Bear" made in 1964). That was Hanna-Barbera's first
theatrical animated feature, and it still holds up well today. By the way,
David Gates (of Bread) wrote the title tune!

It will be the first Yogi Bear movie since the 60s, when the fully animated film "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear" hit the big screen. If you saw the movie, feel free to post.

Yes, I've seen "Hey There, It's Yogi Bear." In fact, I taped it when it aired on
TV back in the eighties (while I was living in Florida). I still have it on VHS.
Trivia note: David Gates (of Bread) wrote the title tune, and James Darren
(later of T.J. Hooker) sings one of the songs in the musical. It's a very
entertaining movie, by the way; Bill Hanna & Joe Barbera's first feature-length
movie. Daws Butler and Don Messick reprise their voices of Yogi and Boo Boo,
respectively. Messick is again Ranger Smith, and Julie Bennett returns as
Cindy Bear. Other voices include Mel Blanc and J. Pat O"Malley.

Hopefully they'll do it right. I liked Alvin and The Chipmunks, so this could be interesting.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks" wasn't bad. Hmm ... I've often wondered: were
David Seville and Ranger Smith separated at birth?

I hope this brings Yogi and Boo-Boo back into the spotlight.

Cool

I wonder who they will get to do the voices since Daws Butler and Don Messick are no longer with us? They won't be easy to replace seeing as they are two of the best voice artists of all time.

I hated both the "goody-goody two shoesy" 1980s-90s remake and the much more recent bigscreen rather gangsta remake last year, so I saw "Enchanted" [which was THE number one family film], "Mr.Magorium's Wonder Emporium" and "Bee Movie" [all 3 of which I liked] instead. My loss, I guess.
