Default "The Streets of San Francisco"

I'm sort of looking into getting one of the releases of this classic ABC series from Quinn Martin. Was it kind of like "Hawaii Five-O" in terms of content?

I was also wondering because I saw the end credits several times, and it said that it was "A QM Production, Photographed Completely On Location in San Francisco." Sounds to me sort of similar to "Five-O"'s proclamation that it was "Filmed entirely on location in Hawaii."

That's a good show! I remember watching it several times when I was younger. Didn't understand much of it, but I liked it!

It is definitely trying to be similar to Hawaii Five-O, especially the opening credit sequence. It's a good show, very typical Quinn Martin. I've been buying them, along with about 40 or 50 other series I'm collecting.

Thanks, all, for your responses. One thing else that I wonder-- why, considering that the first season's worth was a QM/Warner production, is it released from CBS DVD/Paramount?

Somehow, the ownership of the show always resided with ABC's syndication arm, Worldvision. So I'm assuming WB retained now rights. And since Worldvision was bought up by Spelling and then by CBS/Paramount, they now own it outright. The only other show I can think of in that category is the sitcom, Wendy and Me, which also is now CBS property and was produced by Warner.

Ah, yes. Now I know. I saw the Worldvision logo on a clip of the ending credits of "The Streets of San Francisco," and I figured that Worldvision was who owned it. I have seen the same logo on the ending credits of "Little House" as well; that one was an Ed Friendly/NBC production.

My sister Michel purchased #1-1 (Season 1, Vol. 1) for me from Amazon for Xmas. I'm trying it out now, and I'm in the middle of the pilot, but so far, it's looking good.

I still haven't picked this one up and I've been meaning to. I may sample it through Netflix first as I have been with a lot of DVDs before I buy them.

That's a great idea. I hope it turns out well. I had been tentative about purchasing another release, #1 of "What's Happening!!," but I rented the component discs from Netflix, and I really enjoyed them; therein, Netflix had a part in leading me to a purchase of that release. That therein proves that Netflix is a great site for test-driving television disc releases like "The Streets of San Francisco" and "What's Happening!!".

Hawaii 5-0 was filmed entirely on location in Hawaii. I was not aware Streets of San Francisco was, but wouldn't doubt it. I do know post-production of Hawaii 5-0 was often handled in Los Angeles.

You don't mention the coolest part about the show! Streets Of San Francisco stars the late, great Karl Malden and a young Michael Douglas (Mr. Catherine Zeta-Jones himself!) It was a pretty decent action show for the 70s. But then again, QM usually did a good job.

I don't think that I realized that. So, in other words, they sent the "Five-O" episodes to L.A. after having been made in Hawaii for purposes of editing, adding titles, etc.? I suppose that's what you mean.

As of this writing, I thought Karl Malden was still alive!

Default Cannon

Don't forget the other great QM productions.....The Fugitive, Barnaby Jones, and my favorite--Cannon! I just bought season 1, volume 2 on DVD. Hope CBS continues releasing later seasons of Cannon!
