I went to Salem before the thing was done. When I was there they had a spot closed off for where they were going to put the statue in. I know that there was a big ceremony when the statue of Samantha was completed; Tabitha from Bewitched was there. Also, the statue had a lot of bad publicity mainly from the Wiccan community saying that the thing had no right to be there and that it just capitalized on the bad history of witches in Salem. Do you have any opinion on this? Have you actually seen the statue yourself? |

I have never been there, but I dont see how this is negative. Did the people in Salem ever watch the show?

I've never seen the statue in person but it sure is gorgeous!!!! There was an article awhile back about Elizabeth Montgomery's son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter making the trek to Salem to see the statue.

“It’s insensitive to what happened in 1692,” said Jean Harrison, one of several Salem residents opposing the plan. “She was a fictional witch, but the people who died were not witches.” Another local Wiccan reported, "A happy fictional TV witch in a place of so much historical sadness could soften realities for some people — especially children, who get enough mixed messages from television. Better to keep Montgomery in reruns, and out of the park.” The Mayor of Salem insisted that the statue be placed in an area not associated with the historical aspects of Salem; away from the memorial to those who died there accused of being witches. He said, "I see this as something like the Red Auerbach statue in Boston. It’s a place where people will stop, get their picture taken, and have a little bit of fun while they’re visiting Salem." Other Wiccans were supportive of the statue. One said, "Many of us love and adore the show; we grew up watching it but it has nothing to do with our religion. . . . I only wish I could twitch my nose and make my house clean.” |

I'd love to see someone put up an Endora statue in honor of Agnes Moorehead, too - maybe next to the Elizabeth/Samantha statue...anyone?
