Jeff Bridges headlines this series of MOWs which updates the classic 1957-60 Lee Marvin detective series. Bridges plays Corbin Ballinger, a former TV newscaster who turns detective after the deaths of his parents. In this first installment, Corbin-who follows in the footsteps of his late uncle Frank [Marvin in the original show]-investigates the murder of David Berman [played in flashbacks by William Russ], a former co-worker at the TV station Corbin worked at. Also featuring Faith Ford as his abusive wife Liz, Andrew Kavovit as their son Jock, and Yvonne Zima as their daughter Lexi. Louis Gossett, Jr. also appears as Corbin's boss, Captain Paul Russell, and Jud Tylor as Lorelei, a waitress at a nightclub frequented by Corbin. As in the original series, big band music will be heard, this time by guest bands. In this MOW, the Diva jazz orchestra will be heard and seen.

Leigh McCloskey is featured in this installment as a husband and father who is suspected of killing his wife Michelle, played by Wendy Phillips, even though the incident took place shortly before Jordan arrived home during their young daughter's sweet-16 party. Corbin does all he can to clear Jordan of any charges. Also features Shenae Grimes as the 16-year old daughter Amy and Jennifer Elise Cox as older daughter Lynne.

Jason Bateman is featured in this latest installment as a victim of verbal and mental abuse heaped on him by his vituperative mom Barbara-played by Dee Wallace Stone-and his equally abusive grandmother Irene-played by Cloris Leachman. Justin confesses to strangling both adults to death following years of abuse and is put on trial. Diva makes a return appearance as guest band.
