Default LL Cool J Shocked That Jessica Simpson Is Outselling Him

Rapper LL Cool J is reportedly troubled by the low sales of his new album and is shocked it was outperformed by Jessica Simpson's latest offering.

The hip-hop star's "Exit 13" entered the U.S. Billboard chart last week at number nine.

Simpson's debut country LP, "Do You Know," came in at number four and also claimed the top spot on the Top Country Albums chart.

And LL Cool J is said to be baffled by the placings.

A source tells a British tabloid, "He is stunned. He simply can't believe what's happened."

He should be thankful his release debuted at #9, Doesn't he realize how the charts work and that he could move up higher and eventually overtake Simpson? Geez........ By the way, Is he whining because his rap or country release didn't debut high enough?

rofl, that is so funny. Reminds me when Weird Al was on Leno many years ago and he said that he laughed when Bruce Springsteen, who was slumping at that point in time, made a comment in an interview that even Weird Al's album was outselling him at the time.

She only debuted with sales of 65,000, which is quite bad. I don't think she won over the country fans as anticipated. Not surprising since her first single is awful, and she made her first appearance at the Opry dressed like a skank.

I thought she always dressed like a skank.

It's true. But it was still a bit shocking that she didn't tone it down a bit for a place as highly respected as the Opry.

Yea, I think most of the 65k who bought it were some of her remaining pop fans. I just don't think people take it as seriously from a woman who five years ago said she wanted to be the next Mariah.... and suddenly she's always been country because one album was a massive bomb? I think people have been able to take Jewel more seriously since country has been a logical musical progression for her. Many of Jewel's pop fans like her new stuff because it's not THAT different than her folk/rock music.

I agree. Jewel is still Jewel. There might be a bit more country instrumentation in the songs now, but it's still basically the same, which is quality Jewel music. I called it long ago that the country music industry would accept Jewel and shut out Jessica. Jessica may have a couple top 40 hits left in her on country radio, but that's about it.

Jewel's first foray on the country charts wasn't all that great. Her duet with Merle Haggard on the cover of the Johnny Rodriguez song "That's the way Love Goes" ranks among the worst collaborations I've ever heard which is really sad because I've been a huge Merle Haggard fan for over 35 years.

This is all my opinion, but I think the difference between Jewel and Jessica is that Jewel seemed more ready to make the "crossover", she has her cowboy husband and has always sung folk-oriented material (bar the dance attempt with 0304, but even then, the lyrics were just like Jewel), so she really isn't alienating fans. With Jessica, I see this as a last ditch attempt at saving her career after the embarassing bomb of A Public Affair (which sold 200,000 after In This Skin sold 3 million) and she hopped on the blonde country bandwagon after seeing how successful Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift have been. Regardless what Jessica says, if this album flops as badly as A Public Affair, I forsee her going back to AC or she can find another bandwagon to hop on (hip hop?).

LL Cool J is still makin music? The last big song I remember by him was "Doing It" that was like what... 10 years ago? The country fans are huge!!! And Jessica (even thought Im not a fan) did a pretty good job at making the country crossover. Im a little surprised.
