Default Apology

Hi, I used to be Dean Winchester/BuffySlayer and so many others. I took a break from here because my feelings were hurt over a misunderstanding and then forgot my password, so here's a new profile.

I wanted to drop an apology to everyone here I've argued with before. Namely Janice, Brian, Zoneboy and many others.

I have kept my bipolar disorder a secret for the longest time and have finally been diagnosed and am getting treated for it. I also was recently diagnosed with Aspergers, which is a form of autism (I am pretty much high-functioning, but I get seriously passionate about certain things and have a hard time communicating well sometimes). I guess that somehow explained my knack for essay-long posts.

I've had a good few months since I last posted, but I still browse the music section sometime and would like to post there again. One thing I know to avoid is the poltical forum. I am neither a Democrat nor a Republican (I consider myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative) but bad blood always spills out on there so I would rather just have my access to that forum blocked)

Welcome back. Not sure about what's been going on behind the scenes, but I'm sorry to hear about your bipolar disorder and Aspergers. I'm sure it can't be easy.

And I totally agree with you about the politics board.

I didn't see it as arguing, More like a friendly debate that got slightly out of hand. You have nothing to apologize to me for and it's great to have you back.

Welcome Back! Now get an av and start posting again.

I should have my access to the politics board blocked, too. Those people make me mad.

Oh so great you're back John! I've tried to contact you since you left but had no luck.

That's great that you've been diagnosed. That's half the battle right there I swear! I always enjoyed your posts and our discussions. You sure are high functioning - I would have never noticed you had Asperger's really. I feel your communication skills are great!

I've been away myself but try to drop in as much as I can (health allowing).
Welcome back and it'll be good posting with you again!

Cheers,
Cathie

You just don't have to go there. Since I've been posting again I've only had a couple of quick looks and quite frankly, I find politics BOOOOOORRRRING!

Although I do enjoy a good debate over an issue, but I no longer get into to the point my blood pressure's going to suffer for it. It just ain't worth it - you rarely, if ever, change anyone's mind so why bother outside of just stating your opinion - right, wrong or just plain strange. hehe

I actually never gave it two thoughts until my older sister watched something about it on the Learning Channel and so much of it reminded her of me. I first thought she was crazy because when I hear the word autistic, the first thing that comes to mind is Rain Man, and I am nothing like that. But when I look back at my whole life, it does make sense that I have Aspergers going back to my preschool years. Before this, I always just thought I was just odd and quirky and the things I did were just idiosynchratic.

Actually, I don't think most autistics are like Rain Man (one of my fav movies btw). It's still so new that I think most of society is under the mis-impression (is that even a word? LOL) that it's a form of retardation, etc.. It's not at all. Most have average to above average IQs and even those hardest hit, quite often show "savant" traits (like Rain Man with the toothpicks, dates, etc.). It's more the way they relate to their surroundings. I saw one fascinating show on Discovery where a woman described hers as seeing the world like a squirrel would (i.e. how a squirrel sits up a has a 360 degree observation of its surroundings and how that is connected).
Funny, one of my doctors said that when I get back working again I should look into working with autistics at a local university, helping them with accessability issues, etc.. I think I'd like that.

And there ain't nuttin' wrong with being "odd or quirky" anyway - that's what makes us all interesting individuals!

Welcome back, John! This board wasn't the same without you. I'm sorry to hear of your Asperger's diagnosis. I think you express yourself very well, so high-functioning is right. Love your new screen name.
