Question What are some things you do to alleviate stress and/or depression?

Like the subject line says, what are some things you do when you're having a bad, stressful day, or when you simply need to alleviate the blues?

Unfortunately, when I'm feeling sad or stressed, I eat Somehow it just makes me feel better to bite into a McDonalds cheeseburger or a bowl of ice cream when I need to calm down.

Other things I do: write in my journal, call a friend to vent or just chit-chat (usually laughing with them will make me feel better), go shopping, walk the track with my ipod blocking out the world, or take a long, hot bath.

What are some things you do?

Like a lot of people, I tend to eat more when I get depressed. The major down side of this is that when I go through long periods of depression, I end up gaining weight. And the entire thing is usually pointless, since eating doesn't ever make me feel better.

What does work is listening to music and taking long walks. The perfect album for me when I'm feeling depressed or feeling pain is Bruce Springsteen's Nabraska, which never fails to help me feel better. Because no matter how bad I think my life may be at certain points, it is still better than the people the songs are about. Infact, I listened to that CD last night.

i have clinical depression and i'm so adjusted to feeling somber that i usually don't even notice it and continue on normally. when something specific happens that depresses me, i usually isolate myself and listen to death metal because i feel connected to it while in certain moods. people would probably think that it would just make me feel worse, but it doesn't because i enjoy it. i also like to write artistic prose about my feelings. but it really depends on what the situation is. if it's at the point where i don't care about feeling better again, i'll also burn things and make preparations to kill myself and if i'm angry at someone in particular i'll do what i can to drive pain into them. gosh, i'm not sounding very normal, i'd better stop right here. I was born, stressed. But, seriosuly, when I find myself in a stressful situation or I am feeling depressed. I tend to surround myself with things that I enjoy. For one, working out, is a wonderful way to chase away the blues. Also, since I love music, checking out bands or going to a concert, also, tends to make me feel very happy

i usually talk/vent to my best friend when i'm stressed or depressed. hanging out with friends, going out of the house, eating out help me. i love driving to the beach also or driving in general with music blasting. and sometimes when i'm very depressed and in a really crappy mood, having a good cry can make me feel better.

Sit outside by myself in my back yard and just think. It's peaceful to hear nothing but birds chirping and the distant sound of cars.
