Wink Last Day At Yankee Stadium Thread...

Orioles @ Yankees today. ESPN & ESPN2 are providing tons of coverage today. For Yankees and non-Yankees fans, what does the stadium mean to you? I've only been there once and I'll cherish the moment. I'm a Phils fan but that stadium is historic. Frank Sinatra singing in the background, just the history behind is is awesome.

I went to my final game this past Wednesday. I sat with the bleacher creatures. That in itself, is an experience on to its own. I'll miss it certainly, it gave me so many great memories as a kid. The best memory was going there with my dad and doing that Father/Son bonding thing.

Yankee Stadium for the longest time felt like my second home. I went to my last game there a week ago. Like Brian, I've been going since I was a child. I was there for one of Thurman Munson's final games and I was present for the infamous George Brett-pine tar game in July 1983 - and my favorite moment I experienced there in person by far was the Aaron Boone home run - So many great memories! I've got to meet players and celebrities alike, been one of the bleacher creatures, and caught a Reggie Jackson home run ball in 1980. I look forward to the new stadium, but there's only one House That Ruth Built. This is indeed a sad day.

Cool

As far away as I live from New York City (or should I say, the Bronx?) I have had the chance to take in a baseball game at Yankee Stadium. I was there on May 23, 1998. Interestingly, the opponent that night was the Orioles, just like tonight. IIRC the Yankees won, 3-1.

I kept a ticket of the game, but unfortunately I put it in a place where it became badly faded.

I'm gald i had the chance to see one game there this season. Hard to believe a place like Yankee Stadium is not going to be there anymore.

Sad

So they are closing it before the playoffs? Oh I guess this is the last regular home game, right? Because I know that the Yanks made the playoffs. I just didn't think they would close it so soon.

In 1982, my dad took me to a double header Yankee game at Yankee Stadium. I can't remember who they played or who won, but we had a great time! I do remember thinking that the bat boy was hot, though!

And of course Seinfeld fans have fond memories of Yankee Stadium, because that's where George Costanza worked for Steinbrenner!

No, the Yankees did not make the playoffs this year.

The biggest memory of a game that I attended, definitely had to be in 1981. I went to a game with my aunt and brother and it just so happened to be a game where the Yankees clinched a playoff birth. I believe it was against the Brewers. Anyhow, after the Yankees clinched, fans ran onto the field as did me and my brother. It was an amazing experience.

The only game I went, was the day after A-Rod hit his 500th career homer, on a Sunday afternoon vs. KC. Yankees won 8-5 on the only game I went to. I got some nice shots of Mo Rivera closing it in the 9th. Mike Mussina started the game. I got tons of shots of the ballpark and fans, and some of the field. The Yankee emblom behind the plate, one of the KC guys taking his HR walk after he hit it and overall shots from the day & of New York. Gorgeous day and one I'll never forget. Even I'm not remotely close to being a Yankees fan, It was cool.

Any way you look at it, tonight marks the end of an era. Many, many amazing moments have occured in the "house that Ruth built".
