TV What do you think of this show?

Wow, I guess I'm privileged enough to be the first poster in this forum! How cool is that? I don't watch Mad Men on a regular basis, but I do really like it.

It has a "soap opera" feel to it, in that if I start watching an episode, I don't really know what's going on. I am anxious to rent Season 1 when (and if) it comes out on DVD (if it hasn't already), so I can watch it unedited from the beginning.

I love how it is so "authentic" and really looks like a show from the 60's. That's probably what I like most about it. It's like watching a classic TV show!

My favorite characters are Don Draper and Peggy Olson. Elizabeth Moss (Peggy) reminds me so much of Danielle von Zerneck, who played Lou Diamond Philips' girlfriend in the movie "La Bamba". My other favorite character is Father Gill, played by Collin Hanks (yes, Tom Hanks' son). This guy is a wonderful actor! I saw him last summer in "The Great Buck Howard" which is due to come out this October, I believe. I saw it at the Seattle Film Festival and it is an awesome movie! I even met the director! Tom Hanks has a small role in it as well as Collin's dad. I highly recommend this movie; especially if you like John Malkovich. He's the star of this film.

Any fans of Mad Men?

Andrea

I am a great fan of Mad Men! A couple of my friends had been talking about it, so I decided to catch up with season 1 this summer and am now a faithful weekly follower of season 2. I agree with everything you said, Andrea, definitely! I think the acting is stellar.

My only "complaint"? Sometimes there is too much emphasis on supporting characters. I just prefer the focus be on Don, Betty, Peggy, and Roger, for example. Also certain things seem to be mentioned randomly if you will. An example: Freddie Rumson's drinking. I did not get a sense from previous episodes that he had anymore of a problem than any of the other drinkers in the office, yet in the Sept. 28 episode he

is supposedly so drunk that he has an "accident", passes out in the office and is asked to take a leave of absence to dry out....

but he did not seem drunk enough in episode to warrant all that.

So, where the heck did that come from? *shrug* Just seems a bit out of the blue, but maybe I missed something.

In any case, those are minor issues in an otherwise incredible show! I cannot wait to see how the rest of season 2 plays out.

Thanks for jump starting this forum, Andrea.

I love this show! It's apparently quite the darling among the critics, too. I really like the time period...the early 1960's. Hopefully, this show will stick around long enough to go through the entire decade of change.

And OMG! Schoopie! Peggy DOES look like that actress that played Donna in La Bamba! I could not place what looked so familiar about her until I read your post!

Yea! Mad Men has some fans! I'm SO happy to see responses to this thread because I've been dying to talk with people about this show! Tomorrow s I should be getting Disc One/Season One of Mad Men from Netflix, so I can catch up on the whole series. That's why I haven't been paying too much attention the show because I don't want to be lost when I watch it.

Just some info....The actress who played "Donna" in La Bamba is Danielle Von Zerneck. She was also on GH back in 1983-84 and played a runaway whom John Stamos hooks up with. I hated her on GH, only because I had this massive crush on John Stamos and hated watching him kiss her!

Did anyone watch last week's Mad Men? I could not believe that Peggy let that guy cut her hair so short! She looked cute with the new hairstyle, but I wonder what the point of him cutting her hair was. I don't let anyone touch my hair except my hairdresser!

I think Peggy was wanting a more "mature" and sophisticated look since her promotion to Jr. Copy Editor (or whatever it is....I may have the official title wrong... )

And whatshisname (Pete?), the one who was her baby-daddy, said to her..."You look different...". He couldn't even figure out it was a new hairdo! She just smiled and said "thank you."
