Default Best of Password DVD: 12/2

http://tvshowsondvd.com/news/Password-The-Best-Of/10546

Quote:
For the first time on DVD, join host Allen Ludden as he presides over two celebrity contestant teams trying to guess that elusive one-word answer. Spanning from the early 60s, when the show was filmed in New York, all the way up to the mid 70s, an array of celebrities including James Stewart, Woody Allen and Sammy Davis Jr. try to deduce their respective passwords with often hilarious results. This four disc set highlights some of the funniest episodes, toughest clues and is sure to entertain the whole family.
Based on the runtime (880 minutes) and number of discs, my hunch would be 32 to 36 episodes. Based on the description, this set will contain episodes from the 60s and possibly 1971-75 version of the show, but probably not Password Plus and Super Password

I saw this: while I commend BCI for continuing to release the different gameshows, I was hoping for something other than Password. Tattletales would have been nice, or they could have continued with the Match Game/Family Feud releases. Another Price is Right set would have been nice, too, maybe with some of the 80's/90's episodes. Password wouldn't have been my first choice.

Default PASSWORD DVD

I do hope they can leave some episodes with the
commercials intact...especially the color ones from
the CBS run.

I would be very surprised if any episodes from the ABC Daytime run show up on this set as those have been rumored to mainly wiped.

I read that Betty White is only in 4 episodes on this set. I'm still excited to buy it but I'm a little disappointed and surprised that there is no interview with her either.

I'll hope to purchase it. It would be great to see those NY shows again.

Got this on my Netflix queue. But surprisingly, they only have Disc 4 for rental--the first three are only in "Save" mode and availability is "unknown"--very very strange. I also notice the release is marked "The CBS Years"

Jude The Obscure, try renting them from netflix again. I was able to rent all of them in the past two weeks. It's a very good collection I must say. There's a cute episode with guests Betty White and Jack Parr that was filmed shortly after Betty and Allen were married.

Oh they have already sent me Disc 1 (which is peculiar on how something can go from unknown to shipped). I'm enjoying watching this a lot. Some of these are so hilarious and why can't we have a good basic game play format these days? Everything has to be "millionaired" up in order to attract some audience. I'm surprised we don't have a "Million Dollar Pyramid" in the works!

I would say we can't have basic game play format these days because we don't have the kind of stars that come to play the game as they did in the 60's and 70's. Back then they got A-list stars to appear on the show while the million dollar password (With the exception of Betty White) get's mostly C-listers. Plus, game shows these days I think are mostly played because of the money rather than just playing the game merely for fun.

Very true, Indy! I was astounded at seeing the level of high caliber talent playing on Password--Jerry Lewis! (that would be like Jim Carrey playing on a game show today)--James Mason, Johnny Carson (true he was just a game show host then), Dick Van Dyke, etc. I'm really enjoying the black and white episodes more--the edits don't seem to be as jarring as the color ones.
