Mariah Carey Movie Set for December Release
Link
NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Seven years after her disastrous movie headlining debut "Glitter," pop star Mariah Carey will return to theaters in December. Vivendi Entertainment has acquired all domestic rights to the road trip drama "Tennessee," which premiered at this spring's Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The quiet -- and at times moody -- drama centers on two lower-middle class brothers (Adam Rothenberg, Ethan Peck) who take to the road to resolve their economic and health challenges. Along the way they meet a waitress (Carey) whose dreams of a singing career have been dashed by a bad marriage. Though not a musical, director Lee Daniels' film features Carey performing the original ballad "Right to Dream," which she co-wrote with Willie Nelson. "Glitter," a widely panned musical drama, earned just $4.3 million at the North American box office in fall 2001. She had a cameo role as herself in this summer's comedy "You Don't Mess with the Zohan." Reuters/Hollywood Reporter |

Q&A FROM URBANWORLD TENNESSEE SCREENING
Two fans had the chance to ask Mariah questions about her work in the new Lee Daniels film Tennessee at the UrbanWorld Film Festival. Check out the questions and Mariah's responses below. How was it trying it to get into character, the whole process of creating the song, and writing a song through a character who had gone through so much traumatic stuff? MC: Thank you for the question. The process was very different than writing for myself because it was obviously part of the script. So I tried to go into the mindset of what Krystal was going through and trying to to, again, serve the script, and do my best. Did you learn anything about yourself while filming this movie? MC: I was blessed to be working with the wonderful people that I worked with and to have someone like Lee to take me under his wing and allow me to grow as an artist. Really, just not to be put into one category and explore more of who I am. I guess if I had to pick just one thing out of the many things that I learned it's that I'm capable of learning more than I thought because I had Lee's input. So, thank you for the question. (MC's Official Myspace) ------------------------------- I can't wait to see this movie. |

I hope she can pull it off. I think she learned her lesson after Glitter and probably will take on a much better script

Oh yeah! She had definately learned. I have heard nothing but good things about "Tenessee". From people who are not ever MC fans. So that is great news.

I'm excited to finally be able to see it, but I must admit I'm also a bit nervous. Though, I do have faith that she most likely picked a good script this time. After all, she was actually good in the very underrated WiseGirls.

The film also features a song co-written by Willie Nelson. I heard that when she performed the song it had all the cast in tears. Can't wait to hear that one.
