Question At what age do you think a driver's license should be issued?

An auto safety group wants the age for getting a driver's license raised. At what age do you think a driver's license should be issued?

I think it's great at 16.

Were you not 16 once? And did you not get your license at that age?

I've seen people who are perfectly capable drivers at 16 and folks who couldn't drive to save their behinds at 40. Different people are, you know, different

I'm 17 and I'm a good driver. It's really bad to generalize people like that.

I think it should stay 16. Young people show maturity and responsibility at
different ages. You should not generalize like that, Sarah.

Which is why I think looking at it as just an age thing is pretty silly. Forget changing the age, 16 is just fine. Instead of changing the age limit to driving, try making it harder to acquire a license and to keep a license thereafter. That way, teenagers who deserve to drive can drive, and those who don't can't. Seems like a more logical solution than just changing the age limit.

I think they should change it to 18.

Very well said, Tara.

16 is fine in my opinion. like others have said, it all depends on the person. i remember when my friends & i all became drivers in high school. i was scared to death to get in the car with some of them, others were very good drivers. and the people i was scared to get in the car with have improved a lot & are very good drivers today. just depends on who you are. i do see a lot of younger drivers racing down the streets, driving crazily, but i see that from adults too. but like Dutabi84 said, they need to make getting a license more difficult, and keeping it as well.

16. It's 17 in Jersey and I didn't like it. You could get your learner's permit at 16 but not the license. I think that should definitely change. 16 is a good age, if kids are acting inappropriately when driving or not followin the law if they're 16 and have a license, punish them, don't punish the whole country for it.

Exactly.

The worst drivers are people who don't pay attention and act like idiots, that's just that person- not a generalization of people. Examples: People on their CELLPHONES while driving lol and even worst, texting. Texting is even worst, but both are really dangerous, but texting you're looking down, focusing on the text while driving, not if somebody's gonna hit you. Honestly I don't text 300 times but I text a lot, being a teen, and EVEN I am not stupid enough to text once, let alone every time I drive, it's just stupid. People that wear sunglasses while it's dark out definitely handicaps their vision terribly. People that are not experienced drivers tend to fool with the FM/AM stereo a lot and talk to the passanger- know why? Cause their nervous, it's a nervous habit except worst because you're in motion and putting somebody's life in danger when not paying attention. It's just like when you bite your nails but 10x worst.
