TRENTON, N.J. - Cries for help inside a Trenton, N.J., home turned out to be for the birds. Neighbors called police Wednesday morning after hearing a woman's persistent cry of "Help me! Help me!" coming from a house. Officers arrived and when no one answered the door, they kicked it in to make a rescue. But instead of a damsel in distress, officers found a caged cockatoo with a convincing call. It wasn't the first time the 10-year-old bird named Luna said something that brought authorities to the home of owner Evelyn DeLeon. About seven years ago, the bird cried like a baby for hours, leading to reports of a possible abandoned baby and a visit to the home by state child welfare workers. But it was only Luna practicing a newfound sound, DeLeon says. DeLeon says her bird learns much of her ever-growing vocabulary from watching television, in both English and Spanish. |

I bet they felt stupid! I love talking birds! A friend of mine has a bird that hollers "Murder! Murder!" when it's upset! ..& when it sees the cat, it calls, "Here, kitty kitty kitty!" |

A friend of mine is a Police Officer in that area.
Oh lord, I hope it's not him. Nah. Couldn't be. I'd better call him tomorrow.

We used to have a cockatiel that learned to whistle the theme song to "The Andy Griffith Show". It was cute during waking hours, however, it would keep whistling it (loudly) when we were trying to sleep!
My husband would angrilly beat on the cage, yelling "shut up!!!" We tried a sheet over the cage (didn't work) After he started shutting it in the closet at night (that didn't work, either), I gave it to a friend of mine. I couldn't stand to see any animal abuse, no matter how annoying the animal. The friend I gave it to later told me that the bird seemed to be afraid of men for some reason... |

That's pretty funny but if it kept happening I bet those people would be sited for a false alarm!

That sounds like something that could happen to Chief Wiggum on The Simpsons!
