I saw that a reference to the internet was made in a 1997 ep of Family Matters and was wondering was there any reference before 1996? I know I didn't discover the internet until 1996 so I thought maybe it started being mentioned on Sitcoms after 1997.

I have a 1995 episode of Sister, Sister on tape that mentioned computer dating and email. I'll have to dig it out to see what the actual quote was.

I don't think so. I saw an episode of a show the other day, I can't remember the show sadly LOL, but they had computers and they weren't just the old computers you could only type on. As far as talking about them, I'll have to think up any shows that mentioned computers etc.

It isn't technically about the internet, but wasn't there a Three's Company episode where Jack and Janet try computer dating and get matched up with each other? That could only be like the early 80's, though. |

I think there was the internet in the early 90's but I think it didn't really start growing and becoming popular until the mid 90's.. I wanna say around 1994 or 1995 at the least.I remember my first internet connection being AOL & we had it connected around 94 or 95. The only references I can remember on sitcoms are from the mid 90's.. though I do remember seeing an old late 80's movie I believe where this girl met a guy off the computer. If they had internet, you can believe it's nothing how it is today. I think the only thing people could do back in the late 80's or early 90's was at least chat with someone on a black screen with green writing LOL.

Computer Dating in the 80s was not like a website, it was just a Computer Database matching people based on the info given over the phone |
