Let's say you were in charge of "Bewitched". It was decided to end the series after the fifth season, due to Dick York's health issues. Now, they still shot episodes without him to fill up the season. However, how would you want the series to end? In other words, what would you make the final episode be about? Now keep in mind.. No Dick York ... It doesn't have to be a big finale ... or which episode from the fifth season would you air last (much like how they aired an earlier episode as the season finale)?
This would be tough to do without a Darrin present. Even though I hate clip show finales (Leave it to Beaver, The Dick Van Dyke Show), I'd say the absence of Darrin would make a clip show, the best choice. The final episode would begin with Samantha talking to her female cousin (who's also a witch). It seems she's about to marry a mortal, just like Samantha. She asks what it'll be like? Samantha decides to tell her about her marriage to Darrin. This is done with flash backs going back to the very first episode. So, would you make an original final episode or would you choose a earlier season five episode to air as the last one? And if so, which one? |

^ I like that idea, Adam. I really don't know how a "real" Bewitched would end. Sam and Darrin were already happily married and were parents, and they lived in their dreamhouse. Maybe they could've put the ageing makeup on and flashed forward to the future - Sam and Darrin would be grandparents and remembering the good old days. Something like that.

I probably would have aired 'Daddy Does His Thing', Dick York's final appearance as the finale or 'Samantha's Good News'.

If Bewitched had ended in 1969, it sure would be a lot better known for its content and not its constant recasting.
