Default Ratner eyes 'Guitar Hero' movie

Ratner eyes 'Guitar Hero' movie

Friday, August 29 2008, 14:06 BST

By Simon Reynolds, Entertainment Reporter

Brett Ratner has voiced his desire to make a film based around Activision's hit video game Guitar Hero.

Speaking to MTV, the Rush Hour director admitted that his plans had been met with some resistance by the game's developer.

"I love Guitar Hero and I think it's a part of pop culture," he said. "I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie, if Activision would ever let me. I'm trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie. So that would be cool, to do a Guitar Hero movie."

Ratner explained how he would approach the movie's storyline, adding: "It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the Guitar Hero competition. One of these dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts."

A Guitar Hero movie.

I have nothing to say about this.

I am in shock over the sheer stupidity of this idea.

I have no witty comment, no funny one-liner.

I...

Forget it...

Great idea! Hopefully it will be an epic success just like all the other highly-regarded video game movies ever made, just like Super Mario Bros., Tomb Raider, The other Tomb Raider, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and let's not forget that steamy pile of suck...err, awesome titled: Double Dragon.
