Smile Sentimental Seinfeld

This is probably a ridiculous topic to discuss, but I've been pondering this for a week or so. I've been watching all the episodes of Seinfeld in order and I noticed that every once in a while, the cast members will share a sentimental scene (mostly hugging). Seinfeld isn't meant to be sugary-sweet and it usually isn't, but it has happened occasionally.

So I started making a list of the "sweet" moments that occur in various Seinfeld episodes. I'm only on Disc 1 of Season 4 so I have a long way to go, but here's what I came up with so far....

The Deal-I love this episode; it may be the sweetest of them all! Jerry and Elaine are trying to figure out how to do "that" without disturbing "this". They are sitting on the couch and I just love how they start staring at each other not saying a word!
And then when Jerry goes over to Elaine's apartment and they discuss the not spending the night thing, he leans over to kiss her, which I think is just adorable! Another cute (and hilarious) scene is when Kramer gives Elaine that bench for her birthday. I actually felt bad for Jerry in this scene because he was trying so hard to find her something for her birthday and ends up getting her cash!!!!

The Red Dot-Elaine hugs George in appreciation for buying her the sweater.

The Bus Boy-Elaine comes back to Jerry's apartment in tears because she had driven like a mad woman to get her boyfriend to the airport for his flight to Seattle. I love it when she's standing near the door and starts to cry and George and Jerry both go over and console her. Awww...

Parking Space-Another favorite scene (Maybe my favorite). George borrows Jerry's car so that he and Elaine can go to a flea market and on the way home it starts making a noise. Elaine is afraid to tell Jerry so she concocts this hilarious story about some teenagers that followed them into NYC from the flea market. Jerry is so concerned about her (and gullible!) that he walks over and gives her a big hug. It's such a sweet scene!

I can't rememember the name of the episode but it's the one where Elaine comes back from Europe. She buzzes Jerry's apartment and says she's with Federal Express. When he opens the door, she hugs him, Kramer, and George.

That's what I have so far. I hope this thread isn't giving anyone a cavity (For all you anti-dentites out there!) from being sickeningly sweet! I can't help it... I'm a hopeless romantic!

Feel free to add any sweet scenes that you've found. I'm going to add some more when I come across them!

Andrea

Serenity Now when Jerry, after breaking up with Patty, gets all emotional and keeps hugging everyone and then asks Elaine to marry him.

All those episodes you've mentioned are good examples of sentimentality----cetainly "Serenity Now" when Jerry becomes "sensitive" Jerry.

In every book I've read about Seinfeld it always says that they intentionally made the show "hug-free", but obviously they didn't do a good job in that area! Believe me, that's a compliment! I love that sentimental stuff. It makes them more human. Sure they did some bad things in the nine seasons that Seinfeld was on the air, but they all cared for each other. That's probably a reflection of Jerry, Jason, Michael and Julia!

Andrea

PS: I love the "I always loved... United Airlines" too. That was great, because you know that the audience was waiting for Elaine to profess her love for Jerry in the finale. I'm glad they didn't do that, but I loved how that "teaser" line was written.

How about when Elaine is all ticked off that its not her getting married but George. She is complaining to Jerry and then George comes in and she gets all excited and hugs him to congratulate him...LOL.

The only thing I can remember about Elaine finding out that George is getting married is when Jerry starts to tell her and she yells "GET OUT!" And pushes him so hard she knocks him down!

Awww, that sounds like a sweet one! I haven't seen it in a long time, so I have lots of stuff to look foreword to!

Thanks for all the responses, because at first I thought maybe this topic was too "stupid" to post!
